Is it me? - or am I just becoming an old fogey?

My nephew and niece (8 and 3) don't live near me but came down to visit the other weekend. The yard was empty - but the first thing my nephew said to me was "I remember the rules Aunty Mema - no running, no screaming and no shouting". He got a big cuddle.

Pity the 2 liveries who have children haven't taught them anything, I was standing talking to a few others the other week with the mother of a son and daughter in the group. The son came over to us and started climbing hay bales, no problem with that but then he jumped off and started stomping all over the hay that had been left out for us to use (string is cut and then hay thrown down when the bales are very high). I waited for his mum to say anything, she didn't so I told him to stop. She wasn't happy but tbh I'm past caring now.

How about popping round to his house and stomping all over his dinner? :D

I am an old fogey. I used to have relatives until I told the wild kids off now they don't come any more. Oh and they got dirty too which was also a no-no! The last visit was when I found the then 5 yr old standing outside my stables whooshing a schooling whip - my mare was climbing up the wall and the youngster was running round the stable, when I told it off it screamed so I took it home. Never seen them again! Family!

At my yard we are all (currently and long may it stay that way) adult owners. One (thankfully short-term) livery did have a 7 year old that she would bring down to the yard. It was largely OK (although it did want to talk to you all the time) but I was appalled the day I arrived on the yard (i.e farm) to find child there on its own; mother had gone out on her horse leaving it entirely alone.
