Is it me, or is Facebook flooded by horse/pony ads that don’t seem to be selling?

I've noticed quite a drop in prices for horses too from the prices I've been seeing on ads.

I've also noticed that about second hand tack but also, as mentioned on another thread, furniture and stuff like that too. It really surprises me as to me buying second-hand is a win win as it's better environmentally and so much cheaper.

I think the bubble has finally burst. There are quite a few people I know who are selling excellent quality foals/ponies/horses and they haven't had any inquiries over the last couple of months, not one! Livery yards local to me are advertising spaces which is a rarity as they usually have a decent waiting list. My hay man is worried too as he's lost several clients as they've given up horses or downsized over the summer months. Worrying times with winter fast approaching!

I think it depends on what you are selling . Quality always sells . I watched the Cavan horse sales the other day, there was a beautiful black mare in foal that sold for £8k . A few foals sold average £2,5k. So probably back to pre covid prices. A few more went home unsold .
I’ve had a few people contact me looking to buy youngsters/ foals but non of mine are for sale this year .
What I have noticed is that supply of duns/ palomino have caught up with demand . Loads for sale now .

A lot of equine charities are suffering because of the cost of living and big losses through covid when they used their reserves. I have seen a few independent ones close recently. 😢 This has a big knock on affect to the horse crisis. Some people are letting their horses loose hoping they will be picked up as they can't afford vets bills or selling sick horses to dealers to get rid of their problem. Beware of what your buying.

I think a number of YOs are reassessing what it's costing to run their places.

Electricity alone has gone bonkers price wise.

We have a small wind turbine to go up, which will help on that front, but everything else is going up. Fence posts are getting ouch, fuel for machines has made a real difference to work being done, hardcore etc., used to be an okay price per big wagon load and now it makes one's eyes water. Hay is up, straw is up, feed has (in some cases) doubled.

We have a plan of works plus the maintenance costs. Means our prices will have to go up and as a retirement yard we're already niche so that's going to be interesting.

This all knocks on - I have my own yard and yet I'm still holding off buying a ridden horse for me. I have to make sure I can cover the liveries, make sure I have a fall back should anyone not pay or have issues.

It's definitely interesting times.

I have advertised my lovely little 2 year old cob numerous times over the last few months and haven’t had any interest at all.

Haven’t even listed a price so it can’t be that putting people off - he’s very reasonable.
I wouldn't even bother to call as I would assume he was over my budget.

I hope you do manage to sell him to a lovely home - he sounds nice, just the type I used to go for when I had horses.

There are also quite a lot of companies making redundancies at the moment due to economic climate. Some making public announcements, some doing it silently and some doing both.

Just to reiterate - his price isn’t listed on Facebook as it is not allowed. It is fully listed on other selling sites and still the same outcome.

I agree no price is off putting and I wouldn’t bother enquiring myself (apart from FB when they are clearly going to around my budget), but it’s very easy to find his Facebook advert and then find him on other sites with full price listed.

You can do what a lot of people do and put low/mid/high 4/5 figures as appropriate give people an idea just don’t put any actual numbers, carrots or the word price

I have seen people add a photo to the listing with a screenshot of the price in the calculator app - might be worth a try.
