Hello,

Whilst brushing my section d yesterday I noticed he had a dark coloured scab in each of his white pasterns.

They are roughly the size of a 5p coin, maybe a tiny bit bigger.

His field isn't all that muddy at the moment but I know that mud fever can occur just from wet conditions. He is turned out through the day and in at night.

I have been putting pig oil on once a week for the past couple of weeks to prevent this happening but looks like it hasn't worked!

I don't know what this could be as ive never had experience with mud fever, I also have no idea what to do now as I don't want it to get any worse.

If anyone could help it would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you so much xxx

Agree with fubsymog, can you get some photos? Otherwise I would say don't wash it or pick the scabs (this is what I did and it ended up a heck of a mess, and still trying to sort it one vet trip and anti biotic course later a month down the line. However everyone you ask will have a different way of treating it that they swear works, I would ring your vet for a chat just to put your mind at rest.

Hi both, they are in the heels (I may have stated the wrong body part!)

Ive spoken to my vet who has advised just to rub pig oil in and moisten them without washing them - I agree with you though Victoria1980x as there seem to be a million and one remedies for mud fever so its hard to pick one could be right!

Thank you xx
