Is it normal for foals to have sloping pasterns?

Is it normal for foals to have sloping pasterns? I have an 8 month old colt who has sloping pasterns at the front. I was wondering whether he will grow out of it or will he stay like that? I understand his breed (trotter x Clydesdale) has naturally sloping pasterns but they are very slanting considering he is only half Clydesdale.

All pasterns slope, I guess you are worried about how much. Can you show us a picture of what you mean? Have you asked your vet, they are best placed to advise?

Do you mean dropped rather than sloping? If so then no, that's not normal.

This is a picture of the front feet zoomed in from the sales advert as I only bought him a week ago. His feet have been trimmed now btw.

They are long and the feet are badly trimmed but they don't look like an issue to me if you keep on top of proper trimming. Hopefully he will grow into them a bit more.

He was only £400 and obviously we are in lockdown so I bought him unseen and didn’t have him vetted. When I then clipped his leg to prevent feather mites it has become a lot more prominent.

Yes they are fine now x

Yes I would be slightly concerned and the next time the vet was out I would want him to see him.

I'm guessing he's a yearling rather than a foal. That means the window for making much change has probably shut, and I suspect he could be the victim of poor early hoof care. It's hard to tell from the pic but they don’t look awful, see how he looks after another trim
