to respond to someone who has taken the time to offer (constructive) help and advice? Or is ones point not even considered unless they have posted 1000 times before? (and before I may be jumped on - this is a general post and not in response to anything in particular). If I asked for advice I personally would respond to all who took the time out of their day to help. Maybe I'm just old fashioned....

Know what you are saying. Can only thank people who have responded to me & my pm's. Had some wonderful advice on many things (not all horse related) from very kind people.

Not sure I would expect thanks for all the posts of advice I have ever offered - assume some of them were probably ignored and it would take up far too much time - also unless you click the respond by email bit you are unlikely to even know that someone has said thanks.

Bit thicker skinned here - not expecting any adulation....

If I start a thread, I tend to wait until it has run its course and issue a global thank you :).

I don't offer individual thank you's as some people do as it can make for a very long and tedious thread.

I do know what you mean, I know when I have asked for advice I am hugely grateful for the replies. I do like to say so but am afraid to say, that on this forum I don't much anymore. I don't like to be rude but it moves so quickly, the chances of the chaps I'm thanking actually seeing the thread are virtually nil. Plus I feel it might be annoying to re-raise a done and dusted thread to the front page. Not really an excuse I know xx

There's me thinkin' we are a community, discussing issues, sharing problems, having a good old er.. chinwag about horsey stuff that any normal person would think we were possessed by the devil.

I didn't know I was supposed to be gettin' thank you notes...

*goes off in search of posts needin' Thank you notes............*

I'll be while....

Ohh don't get me wrong - I'm not looking for adulation or thank you's... as I said it was just a "general" question. But thank you to everyone who responded ;)

I don't expect individual thanks if I offer advice on a thread, but is is appreciated when the OP offers general thanks to people who have responded.

^^^^^This.
I will say though that if I take the time to PM someone an answer to their query, I would expect an answer and haven't always had one.
I do appreciate updates when someone has asked for help and tried some of the ideas given.
