Is it ok?

I have recently bought 2 horses, both really tallented jumpers, i was wondering ,the mare she is four, is ok for her to be jumping a meter even though she is only four she jumps with lots of scope and all her flatwork is established she jumps with a lovley technique but could it cause any problems jumping her that high at that age?

any heavy work done now will be taxing on the joints....it probably wont show up until later life...but could cause problems later. just be sensible and over jump her and be concious of the surfaces you jump on.

ok thanks i haven't jumped her that big cause i wasn't sure if it would do damage but the dealer i got her from did thankyou x

Personally if it were me I wouldn't if the dealer has been jumping her. I wouldn't jump her for a while to give her a break as you do not know how much she has done. She may have done a lot and being only young may benefit from a break.

yer i was going to give her a break but i just wondered if it could of caused her any damage, she'll be hackin and schooling for a few months now

my friends 4yr old is out jumping BN every few weeks. as long as it is done with care, i can't see the problem loads of top SJers are jumping 1.60m at 6yrs old so they have to start smaller to begin with

Just take your time to build up, they are only babies at 4, we forget that when you have a level headed 4 year old. I'd personally stick to hacking and schooling, and just a bit of jumping in the school for fun, a lower level they are really comfortable with x
