is it possible for ragwort to not grow in a field?

Yes, it is. If you are vigilant and don't have ragwort infested fields surrounding you you may well be free of it. We only get between 1 and 5 plants on our farm every year, none this year so far as we get rid of it as soon as it is spotted!

Yeah alright no need to rub it in.lolol.

Ive never had ragwort on my fields until this year - gutted that it is coming, but im spraying it as soon as I see it. Normally the sheep keep it off, but the new gardener at the farm where we have our sheep and neds has been cutting the gardens and spreading it on the sheep fields - the farm owner wont spray the ragwort on her garden or down the drive as the bare bits 'look untidy' (I ask you!!) so it has been spead onto my field....I hate it!!!! xx

it`s a 2 yearly plant.
i dug some up last year, haven`t seen any yet this year but expect to be digging some next year.

The seeds can stay dormant for up to 20 years. So if you have none at the moment, just wait a bit.......

It hides. You may think there is none there, but you will go out tomorrow and there will be the hugest great momma plant with bright yellow flowers right in the middle of your field. And it will be laughing at you.

That is so true. :D I have been religiously scanning the fields everyday this past week for the horrible stuff and today found a flipping huge plant in the middle of the field. I don't know how it managed to grow so fast and without me noticing it! To be fair, it was hiding behind some dock.

This subject is very interesting to me as when we moved to our present house in 2008 we had a small amount of ragwort so decided to dig it up, in 2009 we had more so went down the route of spraying it at a significant cost. This year, there is MORE than ever!!!! aarrgghh what do I do???? My horses don't eat it at all but it still worries me.
Any advice would be gratefully received and accepted!
xx

We get between 5 and 10 plants a year... it's a religion that's growing... ragwort pulling... I get palpatations driving down the motorways cos I'm not allowed to stop and pull it up...
