Is it possible to change a horses stud name???

We own an absolutely stunning show pony who is registered with the sport horse association but has a dreadful stud name (pembroke cheeky boy) which does not at all reflec his looks or personality and we reckon that it affects his value and perception by judges so we are wondering is it possible to change a stud name? Please help!!!

yes you can it just will be expensive depending on who he's registered with.
My mare cost £10 as she's with the horse passport agency while it would have cost £300 to change my gelding's name as he's weatherby's registered
 
If it's got a proper passport from welsh pony society (or whatever the proper name for them is) then you shouldnt be able to change it.

Now if he was called "Spawn Of Satan" in the leadrein class... ;)

Can hardly see it affecting him in any way at all! One of our best ponies was called Mischief Maker. Suited her perfectly, and everyone cooed at it!
 
I think it's a lovely name and can you please think of the stud who bred him........I think they would be very upset to learn you have changed his name. At least get in touch with them to ask for permission and change it to Pembroke ??????????

I would certainly be very upset if someone changed the name of a horse or pony I had bred, plus it promotes their stud if he does well.

^^This exactly; very unfair on the breeders to remove their prefix and you won't be able to use their prefix if you change it as only they have permission to use it with that society so once you've changed it they won't be able to follow any progress either which is sad; they'll have put time and money into producing the pony and won't see any reward at all if you change it.
It's about time it was made illegal to change passport names at all not just be dependent on you having the money to change them if you don't like them.
 
Would be interested to find out the outcome of Pembroke Cheeky Boy or his whereabouts. Not been able to find any showing results through google etc. Was his name changed? As his breeder, we were not informed either by the owners or registered society!!!!
