Hi guys,

Just a quick query on behalf of a friend really,

My friend has just found out that she is pregnant and is trying to find a sharer for her 16.2hh palomino mw gelding. He is fantastic but not a novice ride, she is hoping to find someone that wants to hack out, school and ideally compete him, she's only asking for a contribution towards his keep problem is all the interest she has had has been from people wanting to take him somewhere else on full loan which is not what she's after!

Someone today said that the only way she would find someone decent enough would be to pay them which is just not an option for her. What do ya think?

Thankies x

I'd snap him up if I was near. I sold my horse before I had my baby and now want to start riding again after a years break. Where is the horse based?

I was looking to loan mine out when I was pregnant and had the same problem - everyone I thought was good enough wanted me to pay them. But there are a few people (like me) who'd snap up an offer like that. Might just need patience. I couldn't find anyone and ended up selling my horse.

ooh you sound lovely, he is based in wiltshire near tidworth. I think her husband would like her to sell him but he is such a cracker! Will i get in trouble if a post a link to his ad?

Too far for me unfortunately. You'd probably get a slapped wrist if you linked to his ad.

I think the best way is to spread the word around all the horsey people you know as someone will know someone who knows someone who'd be right for him. Ads just seem to mainly attract novices as the more experienced people know other horsey people and would find a loan or share through word of mouth

oh poo what a shame, i'm saving my own skin really because she has asked me to take him on and i have two but neither can compete at the moment as one is too old and too nuts and the other is too young so i have been sorely tempted but really do not have the time for him so must resist he he will keep looking for someone perfect!

Yes it is possible. Until I started riding for current owner i shared various horses for many years competing BE, BD and BSJA. The only possible sticky point is the contribution. I didn't make any financial contribution for any of the horse I shared as (hopefully) I was improving the horses and looked after them when owner couldn't. On the other hand I didn't expect payment either.

Have you got a university near you? Maybe try and contact their Riding Club? They often have some good riders...

Otherwise maybe www.nfed.co.uk is good to advertise on.

My friend part loans her hann x tb. He's a real comp and all she had reply to ad were more novicey. She was worried at 1st, but surprisingly he's actually brilliant with them, so it's worked out well. I know how hard it is!

Yes it is possible. I have just eventually found a great girl that shares on of my daughters horses. Tell her to try preloved, equine adverts, stable talk. but she must be very specific in what she is looking for in the rider otherwise you get lots of numpties

good luck

Thanks guys he is on nfed but not anywhere else at the mo, she has had a young girl sharing him before but it was a bit disastrous i think! No universities close unfortunately but i was thinking she could try the local riding club websites?

It is definitely possible to find someone although she may need to be a bit flexible about the contribution to his keep. People that are good riders will know that their contribution is worth something in itself. They will also probably only not own themselves because of finances (or possibly time but she isn't interested in those people).

I would suggest approaching pony club (older teens and young adults up to 25 are members and might be suitable), any good local riding schools, local riding clubs and the local uni.

Don't be put off riding schools, they may have students/staff or capable clients who would be suitable. At the one where I ride there are plenty of people who are good capable riders who don't own their own horse but would chop their right arm off for a share like the one she is offering. Look out for where to train centres as a guide to where to find riding schools that have a decent number of adult riders who aren't novices.

If you were up my way I could probably put you in touch with half a dozen suitable people!!!

I'm sure it will be possible. I would have jumped at the chance before i had my girls. I shared 1 or 2 before i brought my own, only paid £20 per week towards them which i didnt mind at all as the owner was lovely & would take us to shows etc... i think it might depend on what kind of a contribution your friend wants towards upkeep. Is there a village you live in/near? I now a few friends who have put up ad's for part loaners/riders in local post office, butchers, village shops etc... and have been successful. Most of the village used these shops as there are no supermarkets for quite a way so word go around quickly! I got a lovely sharer for my old boy from preloved, but you do have to sift through the numpties to find the good ones :)

Hope she finds someone soon!

Thanks guys, hadn't thought of asking at local riding school will suggest it! Contribution wise i'm sure she only asked for 10 to 15 a week, unlimited riding but minimum 3 days a week!

I've read the ad...

Your friend is REALLY dwelling on the bad bits!! Which to be honest aren't that bad... Plenty of horses out there are a bit nervy, not 100% bombproof. I would take ALL of that out, just put want experienced rider, opportunity to compete. Maybe put schools nicely but not as experienced as his age suggests....

I think she's putting a lot of people off! You can explain the rest of it when people call.
