...... for a friend who has been looking since Spring and is getting dispondent.

A 16.2hh+ gelding, heavyweight type horse. Not TB or half TB. Aged 8+ which is sound, nice looking, straight forward to do and is going to be a confidence booster for a good rider, but one who has lost their nerve in the saddle after an accident and wants to enjoy riding again. Predominently to be used for hacking I should think. They have their own yard and will offer horse an execellent home with other pampered horses. BUT..... they only have £2500 to spend??? They are in the West Country but will travel for the right horse.

Could you all keep an eye out as you scan the for sale pages and let me know if you see anything? It'd be a great help!

i think you would be very lucky to find that kind of horse for 2500,a lot of people want a bigger quiet horse. i was looking for the same thing and i had to save up a little longer and get a younger horse who hadnt done much but is still quiet and i paid £3250. but good luck it might be possible to find something there are bargains out there you just have to look for them.

My computer's gone mental so if this comes up more than once, sorry! Try putting up wanted ads, I think there would be lots of people with older horses with slight unsoundnesses that would do that job for that money or less.

i bought just that but stretched a tiny bit more money wise. safe horses seem to be able to command their own price. there will probably be more around at the end of the autumn no doubt when money gets tight.

I think the horse isn't a problem, but the budget may be. The field mate of the horse I'm hoping to buy (just waiting for the vetting, crossed fingers) would probably fit the bill and is for also for sale (near Yeovil, Somerset), but I doubt he's under £3K. I don't really know much about him as I wasn't looking at him, but he seemed as you describe. The 14.2 I'm hoping to buy is over £3K (including tack & rugs) so I doubt they're asking less for the bigger fella though. As some people have already said your friend may be able to find one for that price if they don't mind age or minor unsoundness issues.

Thanks to everyone who's PM'd me and for the advice given above for my friend who's been looking for another horse. Maybe she'd stretch to a little more money-wise, but trouble she's always owned and bred TB's. If she wanted to pick up a cheap one of these I know she could, but she wants to get away from TB blood and go for something more soild, calmer and which her novice husband can ride too. Neither does she want a horse with any previous injury or lameness, so a 'light hack' wouldn't do either. She's already admitted that she can find a TB to match her budget but simply does not want another one. Will have to keep on looking!
