Other than the usual shoulder, under saddle area?

Have bog pony booked in next week and rep would much rather do a brown patch. Am thinking it may have to be a bald mark after all though. Although am thinking possibly brown patch just at the bottom/below the saddle area. Not sure if it would look a bit silly though lol.

Has anyone had a horse done in a slightly different place?

Madam herself (sorry is probably huge)

a friend had her skewbald done behind the saddle flap on his side as that was where a brown patch was - also know a pony with his on the side of his quarters (similar place to a breeding brand)

I think freezemarks are a good idea, but I would not want one randomly placed on a pretty little horse like yours. I'd have the bald one under the saddle or at the most, on the neck under the mane.

I saw a coloured pony at a show at the weekend and it was on the brown patch just below the saddle area so would work on your ponio too... it was a good place I thought.

My friend has her piebald marked near his stifle area as it was the only suitable place.

It doesn't look too in your face IMO.

Do it where it is visible when being ridden so that it can be seen.

I know that makes sense as a potential deterent, but I'd rather not having one visible when riding or showing under saddle.

I expect most horses are stolen from home when they'll either be unrugged (and the mark will be visible anyway) or they'll be rugged and a body mark wouldn't be seen, anyway. Best to have the plastic signs displayed on the yard gate, and to sew the cloth warnings onto the outside of your rugs at home. Oh, and microchip too

Honestly, micro chipping is plenty. I wouldn't put my horse through the trauma of freezemarking, esp if you plan marking her on a white area, they have to leave the irons on longer and from experience it can cause ALOT of distress.

I wouldn't have another one freezemarked for sure, its horrible. My grey boy had to have it done for loss of use and we only managed 2 figures and the L and he was trying to kill us, they had to leave it on for so long, it was blistered for ages and you can't even see it now

If she's microchipped you could just get the horse-shoe brand done. It's much smaller (just one mark) but still obvious. Being microchipped is no deterant for theives - there's nothing to say she's done. Or for someone to scan her if she ended up at market.

I'd have the horseshoe done on either her shoulder or on the brown patch on her side, as far forwards as possible. It should be covered by the saddle there.

OK, a few points. A horse can be freezmarked on a variety of dark areas, such as above the stifle.

Keeping a freezemark visible whilst riding means that a stolen horse can be seen whilst someone else is out riding your horse.

Trauma? Hardly. Some sensitive horses may react, but it is no trauma!!

I just had two of mine Freezemarked recently and neither of them lifted their heads from the bucket of feed they were stuffing at the time. It certainly wasn't traumatising for my two.

mine was perfectly fine being freezemarked - had no probs - i wanted it on shoulder and had it down shoulder like this
