Say a 5 acre field, grazing for 4 horses almost 24/7 and having room for a schooling/jumping area? Can it work? Ground is also clay which isn't the best.
ps - only 1 horse being ridden, so schooling area is unlikely to get used and abused.

I do. I often school whilst the other horses are out grazing (you just go round them!). I dont really jump at home often but have done in the past easily. Obviously you've just got to school / jump depending on the ground on that day. You cant plan ahead thinking you'll have a jump on the Friday etc. because the ground may be pure mud that day (or sunbaked / frozen). Often I dont canter for weeks, or can only canter in a straight line up hills if the ground is bad enough! But hey, I compete my horse at BE and BSJA successfully doing this so it can work!

I have my horse on just over 3 acres with his stables in the field and in the summer I fence off an area to school and jump - until about end of october. He just shares with shetland friend. I agree with MM, you just have to jump as the ground permits and it should hold up really well since its the one horse in work.

yes, it can be done. I section my field into three and have three horses. We generally ride in the area the horses are not in although occasionally ride in field with horses although since having my rising 3 horsey we have not done that so much as she can be very nosey!!
