I am looking for new horse. 15.2hh- 16.1hh (16.2 if slim built)would prefer no full tb unless sane and safe and no ex racers, Warmblood would be nice but any breed considered Its mainly for dressage - unaff novice and aff prelim and with enough potential to move up a level eventually. Dont mind mare or gelding, 6-9 yrs old. Also want to hack - so safe on roads on own or in company. No buckers or rearers - (had disc removed from spine 2 yrs ago and need safe horse cant afford to come off) Would be nice to do odd fun ride, not so keen on jumping so dont mind if doesnt want to jump. BIG thing is feet - must have fab feet - no flat feet, no underrun heels. - had a horse with navicular so must have good foot conformation.

So what do you reckon any hope in hell of getting what i want??

I have called alot -3 either had toed in confo or dished. One i saw was lame, another i supposed to see got kicked night before so didnt get to see it. And so many are sold but ad still on internet.

Getting to point i dont think i am going to get anything.
Am i asking too much for my budget. I virtually gave my navicular mare away to another livery as it was a guaranteed good home so thats all the savings i have.

I'm shocked that you havn't found something with that budget. I thought you would def get what you were looking for with that money, but obviously not. You should come to ireland to buy, they are nearly being given away here!!!

I definatly think you'll be able to find for that budget. Searching is exhausting though.

Have you considered placing a wanted add? They don't cost too much and I got tons of response from putting one on horsequest. It was that add, too, that led to me finding my wonderful boy.

Also, have you considered a larger native breed? They're often cheaper than the horses, are usually very safe and can easily do those levels of dressage with the right training. They generally have great feet too!
 
Apart from the obvious*, why would you not consider a tb if all other parameters were correct?

*The obvious being that it is unlikely (although not impossible) to find one with good feet and a brain.

i know i thought it was a decent budget but obviously not!!! or the ones in my budget have crappy feet as i found out on sunday to one i had asked is it straight moving - 'oh yes' - got there after 1.5 hr drive - pidgeon toed!! - i had said its got to have fab feet after my navi horse!
really are they that low in ireland

mainly the feet - and i spose the brain issue too!!!! lol
its cos they usually flat footed.

yeah may have to do a wanted ad - as it is exhausting searching the net, then narrowing it down - ringing then going thru loads questions - which have been ruling them out.
I would like something that i can eventually affiliate so as long as it can move dont mind breed but i want min 15.2hh - not too chunky. last horse was IDx - fancy something different.
 
Fair enough, just struck me that most native breeds would tick your boxes. Unfortunatly too small :(

A word of warning for wanted adds - you do get people who cannot read. I had maximum 15.3hh and got so many 16hh appearing. Guess everyone thought well it's just a little bigger...

Also if you don't have a good junk filter, don't put your email address on it.

yeah 16.1 my max really although if its slim built 16.2 ok - I am only 5'5"

yeah good idea re email. might get a free one via orange or something just for the ad.

I have one that totally fits your description, however he is pigeon toed, and has a large blemish due to a fractured splint bone, however he has paces to die for totally uphill, large elastic and forward, there is no way I will sell him for less faults and all as if he didnt have these faults he would be £10k plus, his a serious competition horse at a reasonable price, with full xrays to show that his "imperfections" do not cause and have not caused any issues to date. Who knows what 5 years time may bring, but then there is not guarantee with a perfect horse in 5 years time.

I think a lot of warmbloods do have bad foot confirmation it seems to be more and more.

Have you thought of native x TB, they are normally nice and sturdy with toughter feet.
 
yes very surprised with warmbloods and their feet comformation-i know ID can have rubbish flat feet and TB but didnt realise how many warmbloods are toed in or dish.

yes would consider nativextb - welsh d x tb would be nice. Would have ISH if feet were good. again would have TB if feet and brain good but prefer no ex racers.

I know i am picky. but when spending that amount of money am scared of getting wrong un! - had so many lameness issues with my old mare i want to make sure its got good legs and feet this time
 
Hi, definately possible, if you're lucky!

Recently bought my mare that would tick all your boxes, 15.2hh, 7yo, brilliant, uncomplicated little allrounder. I paid £3,250 for her :) The compromise is that she's pretty green in terms of her schooling, but the basics are there & she's proving to be a quick learner so far! I hope to aff next yr.

After seeing many unsuitable horses, I found her through word of mouth. She was never advertised, seller bought her as a summer project to bring on, I'd never have been able to afford her then, at £4 - £4.5k.

My tip would be to ask everyone you know if they know of anyone selling, even had my vet, farrier, physio, old RI etc keeping an eye for me. Paid off in the end! Good luck in your search :)
 
I've a field of tb's that are sane, keep shoes on and don't try to kill you!

Of course, I also have psychotic flaky footed ones too.
Had one that is now sold that ticked your boxes barr the tb bit. Paces to die for and a stunning attitude to work. Sold for 1.4k. Guess I am saying don't discount a particular breed, they are all very variable. Where are you? I'll keep my eye out.
I have no direct experience with navicular horses, i have always had tb's although i've had other breeds along the way as well. Keep your options open, so you don't miss your dream horse....
 
i'm near wolverhampton.

I dont mind TB as long as sane - cant afford to hit deck!!! - and must have fab feet and clean legs - cant face anymore lameness or foot issues. If you know of any please let me know

oh seen a lovely one tonight - but pigeon toed. went to see my vet with pics and vid and he said not for dressage - ok for jumping but dont with dressage.

fed up now. how hard can it be.
 
I think ruling out tbs is a mistake.
They can be great horses it just depends on the individual like any other breed of horse.

I had someone call about my 15.2hh lightweight mare, she was too heavy for her so i told her about my gelding and she ruled him out even though he was perfect in every other way because he was 2inches bigger then she wanted!
The same thing applies it all depends on the individual horse!
