Is it really still advisable to ride in a hat with no safety harness?

having popped up to the local meet yesterday and enjoying pictures of various hunts in hh, would you hunt wearing a riding hat that was not secured at all, i know it looks very smart but especially when several hunts are supported by local pony clubs is it really the message to be sending out to kids by masters and huntsmen alike who the kids are told to respect and obey to be galloping and jumping on sometimes extremely lively horses without a hat on that is properly secured?

i think its daft - sod tradition - i'm sorry - as smart as it looks to be in one id rather be in my jockey skull nowdays (im a convert to JS from peaked cap btw ;))
i much prefer the look of a patey etc - but i'd rather the safety of a JS
