Ive been paying close attention to when i tack up my girlie as i feel she dislikes being ridden...

Ive noticed that there is no change in her attitude UNTIL i bring the bridle out.
(I can saddle/girth her up happily)

when she see's the bridle she instantly adopts an 'im depressed' look and can *sometimes* play up a tad when getting the bit in her mouth.
Her teeth and back were done 3 months ago and saddle was fitted a few weeks ago..

Ive rung the dentist and asked him to come out and see whether there is something there thats bothering her?
Shes in a jointed full cheek snaffle and a normal caverson bridle.

Ive got this niggling feeling its something to do with the bit/her mouth.

anyone any experiences of this?

How big is her tounge? Some horses hate the nutcracker action of a single jointed bit. it pinches them and/or hits their palate, both of which, as you can imagine, hurt! If you have brakes i wouldnt be inclined to change the cheekpieces but maybe have a look at another mouthpiece?

I dont know really, it looks ok in her mouth but thats just me looking at it. I was debating a straight bar but i just dont know? She came with a single jointed so i kept it the same. I tried a french link and she had NO respect for that at all!

what about a myler ported. my girl was afraid of the bit when i first got her and hated the nutcracker action of the jointed snaffle. She went really well and now i go between the myler and the french link. or maybe a happy mouth would be a good action. It is maybe the feeling of the cold metal in her mouth she doesn't like

sorry, easy way to see if its a bit big for her mouth is if you lift up her lips and it bluges out the gap where her bars are, it it bluges without a bit youcan imagine theres not much room for a bit. even just a thiner mouthpiece can make the difference. This is more of a problem with heavy, heavy crosses and natives but can happen with TB's with v fine heads, sometime thier tounge doesn't seem to catch on! lol

I had this problem with mine (TB). He hated the french link and would be difficult accepting the bit sometimes. He doesn't have a particularly large tongue, but tried him in a Myler comfort snaffle and we've never looked back. He accepts all the time now and because it's sweet iron it tastes better and he mouthes a lot more.
If you don't want to spend out use a bit bank, I used A Bit Different.

However like yours I still think he hates being ridden!!

All horses should have a bit with a link in. No horses mouth is anatomically designed to tolerate a nutcracker mouthpiece. When contact is made extreme pressure is put on the interdental space (between incisors and first premolar) and on the roof of the mouth.

Has this behavior just started or is it getting worse?

About 3 months, its always been this way- BUT her last owners never really looked into things like back, teeth etc so if she did do this in her last home then they'd class it as normal.
Im also very sensitive (im a self confessed sensitive soul myself) so if i think they are not happy i do my best to find out why.
But somethings niggling its her mouth, ive checked as best i can and cannot find any marks/bruising visable to my eye.
