... To wear jod boots and chaps at a show? I can't afford some proper boots right now, but I'm too old for just jod boots, I'd look like an oddball!

I'm hoping for good weather, I don't have a jacket either!

One last question... If you've ever spilt purple spray on your clothes, roughly how long did it take you to get it off (washing ect) if it came off at all?

As said it depends on the show and what you are intending to do. You can get show great cheap jackets now. I think Royston do one for about £20 and it looks alright for that price

To be honest it will depend on the show, I really wouldn't enter without gaiters and boots, you can buy some cheap but smart looking ones from robinsons they are much nicer than chaps and at least then you will have a pair incase you wish to do more shows.
You can also pick up a cheap jacket from somwhere I am sure, even second hand ones are good if they are in good condition and fit correctly.

Maybe it is just me but I woudln't go to a show without a jacket and decent looking boots and gaiters, the judge may look down on you if you don't go in correctly dressed (maybe it is just judges around me who are this judgemental i don't know)

depends on the show - if its just a little local fun show then I doubt anyone will even notice, although I wouldnt do a showing class without gaiters and jacket. Anything more that that I would try to at least get either a jacket or gaitors if you cant afford both....

I'm sure you could get away with wearing boots and chaps at a local show, I have on several occassions and still been placed. So long as they are clean and in good condition they can look perfectly smart. As for the show jacket, do you know anyone who has one you can borrow, or if you're really desperate prehpa a school blazer would do? Although as said above you can buy show jackets for good prices now so it would be worth getting one especially if you plan to do more shows in future.

At a local show you may get away with wearing chaps with your jod boots providing they are the same coplour as the boots. As for a jacket, it has to be extremely hot weather befor you would be allowed to ride without one. You can pick up used ones, in great condition on ebay very cheaply (or borrow one for the day).

As for the purple spray....afraid it isn't going to come out.
