While i was poo picking in the field today i noticed my boys back leg was clicking when he walked. He doesnt do it when being ridden, nor when im walking him in hand, just when hes grazing and doing the very slow walk?? Asked a couple of girls up the yard and they all seem to think its quite common?

My ponio does it ridden or not ridden. Vet said it was air popping out of his stifle joint and wouldn't harm him. He doesn't do it all the time - he will have a few days of it then a few days not doing it etc. Joint supplement Equiflex seems to have helped a bit, but yes I think it is fairly common.

My daughters ankle does it when she creeps upstairs, trying not to be heard

It doesnt hurt her and the doc says it is just air or synovial fluid popping in the joints and not a sign of arthritis or anything like that

my previous horse used to do this and he ended up having a operation on his stifle joint , he was also stiff on that leg for a long time , the op didnt really improve the problem maybe it should have been left well alone , I wouldnt worry unless he shows signs of lameness , he was fine when i owned him but i used to work him regularly his new home didnt and thats when the problem raised its head, keep supple, some hill work, regular jaunts and not too much time in the stable , ie at night fine but dont leave him stood in in the day just to keep him clean, turn out as much as possible, good luck
