Is it too early to clip?

I have just lunged my ginger pony and she has sweated a lot more than I expected. She is losing her winter coat now and I am at my next event on the 14th. Do I rug her now or do I clip her and rug her??? Worried if I rug her that she will sweat. She lives out overnight and in during the day.

What are you all doing??

If mine are in full work I would happily clip at this time of year, you just need to make sure you keep on top of changing rugs with the weather being so changeable.

If she's uncomfortable and in enough work to make it worthwhile, then I'd clip. The weather is supposed to be quite nice for a couple of weeks and fairly mild after that.

I used to have to clip my Conn x TB at this time of the year and while the weather is like this I would not rug him. It just means you have to clip more. Maybe a high trace clip or a blanket clip?

I clipped my 14.1hh in July before an event as he was not coping with the heat. Just be prepared to clip again in about 3-4 weeks.

I clipped one of mine on Sunday, he was already fluffy and sweats very easily.

This. This question is (to me) a little like "should I rug?" . . . honestly, it's down to individual horses/owners. I won't be clipping Kal yet but he's fine skinned/fine coated and although he's getting a little fluffy he isn't uncomfortably sweaty yet. However, if I had a horse with more draught/native in it . . . or was a tad older . . . and was getting woolly and in enough work to be struggling/very sweaty when worked then, yes, I would clip now. Honestly, I would clip as often as the horse needed it . . .

I clipped yesterday, my boy doesn't cope with the heat so I have to keep him clipped all summer anyway.

My welsh mare is getting fluffy and now she's nearer to home I'll be riding alot more-so I'll be clipping in the next couple of weeks when she starts coming in over night for winter.
