I usually do my last clip in December, usually a full clip and never have any problems with hair growth.
However horse hasn't been in much work this winter so just had a blanket clip. I'm dreading the moulting so am considering whipping it all off but is it too late to do it now? Also her current clip still looks pretty fresh - would clipping it again be too much?
Thanks in advance for advise :)

I clip mine at any time of the year, always grows back nicely. Mine will have a full clip around mid Feb and hopefully I can get away with it being his last! but I did clip in March last year :( clip away !

Do you show at all? if not, clip anytime. Sorry if you do show and already know this :)

mine has a high trace and was clipped again this week. Normally I only clip once but he has grown more coat back than he usually does so hence having to have him redone.

I was at the yard today and thought about when this topic would be on H&H again.....
Here we go.

No not to late and we show ours. along as you leave about 45-60 days between a show date and the clip it should not be visable at all even if it is may and you are showing in July.

Tried and tested, healthy, shiney and very glossy coat!

Definitely not and I still have found no justification for all the rules about when?? Mine get clipped when and whereas needed, and I show them a lot and they are always spanking.

Our big boy, he was clipped a in July, This show was in September and no clip lines show and as you can see his coat looks beautiful.

This did not work for me I'm afraid. Clipped around 5th Jan last year, show on 8th March, pony still looked freshly clipped at the show - his blaze was pink!

I blanket clip my show type cob for Autumn and winter, then fully clip him as late as April as left to his own devices he'd hold onto his winter woollies until late May/June. I always use medium blades to avoid lines and that scalped look. He competes in cob, veteran and worker classes and has never had a judge comment negatively on his coat.

I thought docking horse was illegal, kikke. It's there another reason why he has no tail?

Yep it is illegal. He is a a belgian draft and we imported him from Belgium were he was docked as a youngster.
It is a shame and don't agree with it but it is what it is and unfortunately there are no good belgian draft breeders in this country so we had no choice.
