As title really, if not what is the best thing to use for the minimum time to keep horses off . I can't believe how bad they are this year. My paddock looks more yellow than green!!!!!

I use Grazon 90, the exclusion is 2 weeks I think. Works pretty well on buttercups (and any broadleaf weed). Buttercups here are just starting to flower so it's a bit late really but you could cut them down, then spray in a week or two when the new growth starts.

I got fed up of mine last year and murdered them all with I think it was Roundup. OH came home to find I had been wandering around the fields with the back pack on and was mortified as it kills EVERYTHING. Anyway, dead buttercups and a bit of grass later, this spring much more grass and hardly any buttercups. lol He isn't ALWAYS right.

you can spray with MCPA (agritox is one brand name) which will kill docks thistles nettles and buttercups. need to keep off for around 10 to 14 days if blanket spraying (3.3 litres to 200 litres of water per hectare i think. i do know its 82 mls per 5 litres in a spot sprayer!!! it is a lot cheaper than grazon 90. but if you have an excessive buttercup problem then your Ph of soil is probably wrong and probably needs lime. get your soil tested. if you get someone in to spray then they need to be fully liscensed which bumps the cost up.
