As per title. I have been riding my horse in a Jump saddle, which saddler says is not ideal, so have purchased the saddle they recommended (it was not from saddler so not profiteering).

I ideally need a jump saddle to jump in as my legs tend to go all over the place in a gp; my current jump saddle is very comfy and suits me.

I have contacted the manufacturer who says they can try and alter the saddle to suit new horse, but obviuously offer no guarantee. The quote for doing this was £125.

I can't really afford £800 on another saddle, and have yet another saddle clogging me up.

What do people think? Is it worth trying to have the saddle altered ? It doesn't seem to much money to try, and should to help improve the fit of it?

I've asked my saddler to recommend me jump saddles so I could keep my eye out for a bargain on eBay but she didnt really have any suggestions.

Can you do an exchange for something that actually fits? The big saddlery here generally lets you swap saddles and then pay the rest for something that suits your horse:)

Saddler said the tree was too flat and too wide.

Already has a prolite pad underneath it. Horse doesnt have much topline so will broaden up a bit

I'd be lucky to get £200 from any saddler for current saddle. I've got all my other saddles for sale privately and cannot get rid of them.

I've tried seeing if any local saddlery will take them either to sell or to buy them, and all have said no.

Yes the market is poor at the moment. Have you tried bargain hunting on eBay? I have a small stash of quality English saddles courtesy of eBay in the hope one will get fitted to the new horse.

Might be worth a low level punt on one you can view first?

Have you tried the FB selling pages? just sold my TG saddle tonight, granted it tookk 2 week but much better than preloved, ebay and gumtree!

The Facebook group is very active and lots seem to sell on there, i think its called Saddles For Sale and Wanted

Imnot sure about the knock offs, saddler said an Amerigo vega or an Albion kontrol may fit but not guarantee.

Not advertised anything on Facebook yet

My back lady had a saddle altered to fit her horse successfully. It was a non adjustable Albion and he made her sign something saying it was not his fault if he ruined the saddle!!!
Sounded v dodgy to me (in a money loosing way) but it paid off and her favourite saddle now fits her new horse perfectly

I had the back man out this week, and her back is fine, so presumably the saddles I have are not that bad on her.

She does have some small "issues" when being ridden; but hopefully I will be able to tell this week if its saddle or bit problems, or just the fact she needs some more schooling.

She does need to put on more topline, so unless the new gp saddle arriving is awful to jump in, I guess I'm best off waiting to see when she muscles up and the getting saddle altered

I can't see how you can make a tree curvier, in fact making it narrower will make it flatter as well, and it is not recommended to put a totally different tree into a saddle, you should only put one in of a different width.
