Is it worth trying a supplement?

Hello,

Bit of back story. My horse had a slight nosebleed at his vetting in April (was very unfit but worked very hard for 5 stage) but vet said not to worry as she didn't think much of it and he passed with flying colours. End of November he had a nosebleed during a flatwork lesson. Still not severe and only out of one nostril but noticeable enough for one of the kids to come running over panicking (I'd put him away and untamed before going back to clean up). He then had another barely noticeable one 4 days later so I asked the yard for vet to have a look as he was at the yard the next day anyway. He advised to scope him to check nothing wrong but to carry on as normal riding wise for now. I rode him between vet visits both on the flat and jumping and he was fine.
Results of the scope are slight inflammation in upper airways (literally almost at nostrils) but completely clear otherwise. This is what causes the little bleeds. They have said nothing to worry about and should clear up on its own. If the bleeds continue he wants to X ray sinuses to make sure nothing else is going on. He does high blow so don't know if this isn't helping it heal.
He now hasn't had a nosebleed since 3rd December. (Woohoo) So hopefully it's in the past and it's just that he's more prone than others.

Now onto my question! :)
He's always been a snotty horse, not season dependent but just snotty. He also has to have haylage as hay makes him cough, even if soaked (with a hose as yard had no other way).

Do you think it's worth trying him on a breathing supplement in general to see if it helps with snot etc and could this help his whole respiratory? I was thinking along the lines of Equine America Airways Xtra Strength Powder.

Any suggestions?

Thank you for any help! :) I have cookies and cream kit kats on offer. :)

Some times nose bleeds are a combination of stress and speed my daughter looked after one in racing he only had bleeds when he raced, one nostril.
We have a mini shetland that came to us in april this year he was about 8 months old and he had 3 bleeds from both nostrils ,the vet said when its both nostrils it is coming from the lungs,he also had a cough and was in poor condition, the vet thought he had a virus ,he is thriving now and a handful ,
For the respiratory problem have a look at Feedmark Clarity,if you ask them they will send you a sample and they are fast on delivery.

Hi,

Thank you. Mine only got them from one nostril and only during flatwork. Jumping he seemed fine. He's always found working properly on the flat harder work than jumping.

I will look them up! Thank you! :)

Sometimes they need a vitamin supplement - you would have to ask the vet if it is appropriate for your horse. I think it is Vitamin K.

Global Herbs are also good, sometimes with their products you give a course of treatment and then finish it after about a month, so it gives you a good idea if it is working or not.
