Is micronised linseed the same as cooked linseed?

Another question is how much of the energy is available to the horse , I don't know but it may well be that feed raw a lot more of the calories are not digested so you are wasting calories and money.
You are right there. If you feed raw whole linseed a lot of it comes out the other end unchanged. I used to boil it at home but am glad you can buy the micronised stuff these days.

It is an acid which is released when the linseed is soaked in water, and neutralised at high temperature. Not sure whether the digestive juices also release that acid but clearly it can be safe to feed.
It was always soaked because it has a hard shell and is pretty indigestible raw, will likely pass straight through, then cooked to neutralise the acid. Grinding it up seems a good way round that if the saliva and acids in the digestive system can cope with the acid, and hollybear seems to have shown that it is okay.
