who doesnt paly with any toys at all??
my dog is a collie and very nervous
i am trying to get him used to different situations and people any ideas how i could make him more sociable and playful??
i have had him since a puppy .
 
Must admit, even for a puppy, Bess won't play with toys. She will fetch a ball that you throw or a frizbee but she is absolutely not interested in chew toys etc. Just sits there whining at them!

She will, however, happily chew on furniture, water bowls, horse feed tubs......you name it....anything that she's not allowed to chew!

My lurcher is a rescue, and does not know how to play at all either on his own or with other dogs

Very occasionally he will play with an empty plastic bottle or a football, but he quickly gets really aggressive and you have to be very careful with him.

Poor boy, it isnt his fault, he has obviously had a rubbish time in life before we had him

My collie was the same at first kind of looked at toys like well what am i meant to do with that?! and you could play with it yourself, between you and a friend and try to make him join in...... nothing!

then one day just clicked and he went oy I want that! and started playing!
pets at home do a honking pheasant, first of all he was petrified of it, 10 minutes later he loved it and wont stop carrying it around! just had to buy my second though as he destroyed the first

Pets at home also do a chocolate flavoured dog tug rope toy thing...... maybe something like that with scent or taste may tempt?
 
Two of my dogs don't play with toys at all, the other three love them.

I do sometimes think they are missing out, but there are always toys laying about and they just don't want them. I have given up trying to find them toys they like now as it was costing me a fortune!
 
My two aren't really interested, they will chase something for a bit if I throw it, but then can't be bothered once they find out where it has landed.

Interestingly, the rest of their family are obsessed with them.
 
Thats a good idea L_N - actually this thread has made me feel a bit mean, since Tal doesnt play with toys I havent bothered to get any for Islay as I have just assumed she wouldnt play either! Actually she is a lot more active/fun loving so would probably like some
