Hi everyone!

I recently bought a new horse and I have been trying to work out her passport. It is a duplicate passport issued 3 years ago but something does not quite add up on it. It states the horse was born in Ireland and that the passport is a duplicate. The part by the vet with the identification markings was done in 2007 and the duplicate passport issued in 2008.

There are a mishmash of owners and it all looks a bit odd.

Other than writing to previous owners how could I trace my horses history?

A choclate hob nob for any help!

I'd firstly contact the passport issuing authority and see if they can throw any light on it. Then perhaps contact the vet who signed it - see if they have any records they might share with you. Sorry can't be more helpful!

If you just want to find out if he is an ex racer then you can search his name on Racing Post and if he raced under rules his results will be on there.... Good luck x

ok this is useful - she is microchipped - what do I do with that information?

The passport is a Pet ID one. I have tried googling everyone in it and nothing, the vet does not appear anywhere either.

keep the suggestions coming!!

if you email weatherby's with the chip number they will tell you

I did this with a horse I had just bought and they told me his real name, and all his racing career

I had the same thing with my boy, no name, no details just a Pet ID passport. Got the vet to check his microchip & Weatherbys told me who he is. I got details of his dam & sire, where he was born & sold but between the sales & 2006 he goes off the radar..hope all goes well. Keep us updated..

Forgot to add that if his microchip begins 98510 then he is registered with Weatherbys so you know you have a full tb. But you'll have to wait to hear back from Weatherbys to see if he is an ex racer. My horse has never raced, he was sold as a 3 year old & was never even named..

I have a duplicate passport for my horse (Weatherby's posted the original to the wrong address!) and the only thing that was properly duplicated from the original was the report on his markings, so that would have been dated 2004 and the duplicate passport is dated 2010...

(duplicate passport is now back with Weatherby's for them to locate the missing vaccination proof for the last 7 years as I'm not paying to start again!)

Hi Ginger - the chip starts 98514 not 98510 - does this mean not ful TB and is it still like to be a weatherbys?

Sounds a bit funny, My horse used to race and I know in some countries the horse aging system is different. I would look into it a bit more as it seems abit odd.
