My 14 year old connemara 14.2hh when ridden, mainly out on the road, i have noticed a clicking sound. when i looked at her back hooves they were squared off where she had been clipping her feet. She wheres all four shoes and is shod and trimmed every 6 weeks
Does this sound like forging? Is there anything i can do ? And can anyone reccomend any boots to put on ?

Is this the same as overreaching? Hitting back of fronts with toe of hinds?

If so, two things I've used are overreach boots on fronts (just rubber with velcro fastners) and also tell your farrier she does it so he can shoe accordingly. FB has his rear shoes set further back so that if he catches his front heels it's only with hoof and not metal shoe.

If she has squared off her toes, (as apposed to the farrier squaring them of when he shoes her) of her hind feet i would say it is more likely shes dragging her toes along the road, not forging. Ive not known of any horses squaring toes by forging, but wait to be corrected. I would reccomend making sure she is going actively forward when shes being worked to make sure its not a laziness thing, and probably get vet/back person to give her a once over, particuly if its something shes only just started doing.

Forging is hitting the front foot witrh the back one, as opposed to over reaching. It may well be, Storm forges, my farrier sqaures of his back feet to limit this.
I use overreach boots as a precaution. I have also never heard of a horse squaring off feet by forging, maybe get your farriers opinion.

If she has rounded off her rear toes then it isnt forging it is more than likely either her being a bit lazy or could indicate a hock problem.
My mare did exactly the same and it was her hocks.
