My horse is on a scoop of Alfa A and two scoops of Pink Powder.

The poor sod is no longer getting hay - yard move imminent there.

He's a good doer normally and is currently maintaining a good weight (although this last bout of snow wont help

In light/moderate work, hacking over an hour on weekends.

Could he do with having a balancer added in? Or is the PP handling this side?

Sorry for all these questions!

If he is maintaining his weight I would not change anything, the spec on PP is fairly good and he should certainly be getting enough vit/mins from that. If he does drop off, all you would really need to add would be calories, ie more Alfa and perhaps some Speedibeet.

The Pink Powder will supply vit/mins plus probiotics and prebiotics to help maintain good bacteria in the gut. The protein content is about 12% which is significantly less than full blown balancers such as Top Spec Comprehensive (which is about 25% protein).

Without analysing your grass (and hay when he gets some) it is difficult to say whether he needs the extra protein. You are already feeding Alfa A which has a good protein content, but one scoop is only about 500g, so probably not going to make a significant impact on his diet.

If he looks well and is going well, you will probably be fine leaving him on the Pink Powder, but my main concern about this diet would be the lack of hay - hope you can get that sorted pronto.

I would definitely up the Alfa A, because it is so 'fluffy' it looks more than it really is, and if you can feed twice a day it would be better as that way he won't be spending so long without much in his tummy.

Whoops overlooked the part about no hay - do you really mean no hay? If so, don't blame you for moving yards, that's the most important part of his diet

I agree with TGM up the alfa in that case, you could also feed speedibeet for extra fibre.

Out of interest, why has the yard got no hay or is it that they just won't let you put it out for him? Either way it's madness

Hope you find your new yard soon

They wont let us put hay out, I pay for hay in my livery price, but it isnt allowed to be put out overnight for the ones who stay out 24/7.

Other paddocks on the yard are allowed hay, but not ours

I think I am just going to have to brave his evilness nad start keeping him in overnight now!
