Obviously he's not.. But he's being pretty frustrating...

I have a 15 yo 17hh ID X gelding.

Sometime around may he went lame behind. The vet offered to X-ray etc but with him being an older horse I decided to turn him out and see if a bit of field rest would mend him. He's been out 24 / 7 since the end of April .

Thankfully this seemed to work and he's been slowly coming back to work (started with lots of gentle long reining).

Since then he had developed a cough. It started as an occasional head down cough but started to develop into something a bit more chronic while trotting. On one particular day when coming in from the field he seemed to be wheezing - defo vet time!! He was prescribed ventipulmin and dexadreson - and definitely no exercise!!
Now he's a lot better , seemingly, no coughing in the field, and can walk out on a lead rein no problem. He will also gallop skip and buck around his field like a 4 year old. However the second he sees that saddle... Back comes the cough.. I don't even need to be on him!!
So he's on another course of ventipulmin, and after some research is also on naf respirator , and to look at is in perfect health ! Until that saddle comes out..! He even managed to cough up some white mucus yesterday :/ vet thinks its allergies do he now wears a nose net too... Does anyone else have any ideas?? It's so frustrating seeing him act like a colt in the field and an old man when the saddle touches him!! Obviously the vet will be back if no improvement after the ventipulmin has finished, but in the meantime... Anyone offer an opinion??

Thanks!! Xx

Get him tested for PPID. You'd be surprised, but I've found a massive improvement in one of mine who has RAO with getting the PPID sorted out - it's a complex condition with a lot of hormonal pathways involved.
