Trying to sell my boy as found a new horse

Poped him in the local paper which is also on line and where 95% of peole look for horses but not had 1 phone call. Need to sell him to help fund the next one
 
it is going in to winter so not best time to be selling a horse.... I wouldnt buy one now! Also there has been alot on offer around sept due to snr pony clubbers going off to uni.....
Best time is start of season i would say.
 
i have had my mare advertised for nearly 3 months, i have even dropped the price from £5500 to £3500 and still not a phone call! its a nightmare. she is such a nice mare but if i dont sell her soon she will just be turned away all winter which will be such a shame after such a progressive summer, but i simply dont have the time. hope you sell yours soon.
 
I'm having problems trying to sell a dressage schoolmaster for literally nothing, no calls, advertise him on the well known sites, nothing and i'm desperate as have a 3yr old waiting for his stable. It's such a pain!
 
No one has money! And it is coming into winter! So nope think it will be difficult to sell aything! Good luck though!
 
When we sold Bailey we tried the online route but it was the good old H+H ad. that found him a new home in the end. All together it cost £200 in advertising fees. I also let his saddle go with him despite it being nearly new. It's bad times out there!!
 
Think it's a bit like like everything financial now - everyone waiting and seeing what might happen next. Hang on in there, if you can, it will get better...hopefully!
 
Prices are definately coming down.i think many nice but ordinary horses and ponies have been far too over valued by the seller.People have been too greedy or misguided.Yes good competion horses will hold their value and sell,but lesser mortals should be priced more realistically.We have just bought a nice 14.2hh coloured pony for £1800.£800 less than the asking price.So its a buyers market at the moment,and quite frankly i think its about time that the prices came down!
 
If the above is true why can't I find anything to buy? I dont want to travel for miles looking for something admittedly - well will travel up to 50 miles away but so far in seriously looking for the past 6 weeks have seen 2 that were lame, 1 that was alot smaller than owner said and one that was definitely not the quiet allrounder as stated. I am prepared to pay between 5 and 6K but all there seems to be is ex racehorses which is not what I am looking for!
 
Well- I sold my daughters pony in a week - people rang from all over the country and the buyer travelled from Wales to Yorkshire.....I advertised her willing to drop in price, because new pony was waiting to be delivered, but I didnt need to - perhaps I was just lucky!!

I think 50 miles is poss a bit too small an area to consider (after all if you have 2 wasted 50 mile journeys you could have gone 100 miles to the 'right one') ......could you increase it a bit but maybe only ones that are near fast roads so distance less critical than travel time (eg using multimap to tell you how long it would take).?

just a thought, dont like to think of you with goggly ex racehorse instead of your perfect neddy this winter

What photos are you using in your ad - it is amazing what awful photos people use to sell horses sometimes!

I was at a show the other day and saw a beautiful, well-schooled horse who went onto become supreme champion at the show. I got chatting to his owner and she said he was for sale, but she hadn't had any interest, which I found very surprising as he was a reasonable price as well. But when I looked up his ad on the internet I saw the reason - the photos were terrible and didn't do the horse justice at all!

Likewise (but in Scotland / North England), really struggling to find a steady (not ploddy) heavyweight cob that I can learn on. I'm in that transistion stage between total beginner and reasonably competent rider and anything suitable I see gets snapped up before I get there.
 
Got all this to look forward to - need to put Oscar up for sale late November all being well......although he will be priced reasonably and is a good horse so hopefully will sell!
 
I think this whole "nothing's selling" comment is a bit of a myth to be honest. If your horse is priced realistically and you are aiming at the correct market then I don't see why there would be a problem. There seem to be just as many posts on this site from people "desperately looking for" a horse as there are from people who seem to be struggling to sell.

Now most people who seem to be shopping appear (in my mind at least) to have fairly good budgets (ie around the £4K to £5K mark). I believe you should be able to buy a horse for this with no problem. However, if you are wanting over the £5K mark then you are looking at a much smaller market of people so you may be pricing yourself out with regards to prospective purchasers.

At work (insuring horses) we are still seeing numerous people buying (more than normal if I'm honest) and not all are cheap - i would say most are around that 3 to 5K sort of value.

Try other avenuesm to advertise - they do not have to be costly. Word of mouth, ads in tack/feed stores, cheaper websites (ie Horsemart). Nowadays I think more believe do look online as opposed to papers.
 
this time last year i had a sensibly prriced horse advertised everywhere possible, about two phone calls and one person to look at him.
 
We have our mare up for sale and would have sold her now if I had been prepared to let her go on trial. We have had loads of calls and there seemed to still be a lot of people out there looking. We have priced her very well as I am more interested in a good home (although I do of course still want the money). Another reason I didn't sell her to the home that wanted a trial was that they had no winter turn out at all.
 
I have heard of two horses locally that have sold quickly recently both arond the 3.5k price range, both good adverts.
One was a pinfired ex trotter, whom the buyers did not even bother to have vetted!
