I know shes lacking muscle but we're working on it steadily as she was very underweight when she came to me. Shes rising 6yo.

Had her about 2.5 months and we're in light to medium work which is increasing.

She has ALOT of her winter coat left also.

What do you think weight wise? Also, hows her conformation while im here

Ok, as no one else seems brave enough to answer your question....you certainly dont want to put any more weight on your horse in fact Id be trying to shift a bit off again.

She looks like a native/welsh cross type and they live on fresh air especially this time of year and she looks like she could head into problems if you put on any more.

She looks very nice but to CC it would be easier if she was stood up square in the photo.

Sorry she was faffing alot so i took them while i could.

She is a welsh Sec D, so spot on with the breed!
All shes fed is Baileys no.14 Balancer thats it and grass!

In regard to shifting her weight, im increasing her workload steadily but apart from that should i be looking into muzzling?
(Im worried as she was so underweight before that being muzzled will cause some big issues)

She is on the fat side of good now - if you look at her spine, you can see it is down a slight 'gutter'. If you can control her grazing a bit that would stop her gaining any more, but I'd use electric fencing if possible to strip graze it. And increasing her workload, as you plan to do, should help.

The welsh D on our yard has gone into his muzzle this week - close shave with sore feet - and he is the worlds worst tantrum thrower. He settled down within the first day and has been fine since.

Im sure your mare will be ok, its only those first few hours while they work out how to eat throgh the muzzle that they get a bit stressy with and once they can get grass they forget all about it.

Better to risk a bit of a strop than end up having to keep her in or heaven forbid getting the dreaded laminitis.

Do you have a weigh tape. It might be helpful to you to measure her say once a week just to keep a close eye on whats going on? Welsh are really difficult to slim down once they have got too hefty s you will probably need to be quite vigilant through the summer, the grass is shooting away faster than animals can eat it this year so you wont be alone!

Sadly, the rules of condition scoring still apply to cute Welshies with 'apple bottoms' (and slight crests

First thought - getting overweight
Second thought = Welsh D.

Nice though

Is it advisable to put a muzzle on her now, or keep an eye on her weight and measure every week?

Shes been this weight for a few weeks and hasnt got any bigger- yet- but im not sure if her current workload is keeping her at this weight?

I don't think she is that fat, although i would watch her weight at this time of year i would do this with restricting(sp?) the grazing though not by putting a muzzle on!

You are the best judge of that - obviously if her weight is relatively stable, and you're going to increase her workload, then you may have no problem, especially as the grass quality tends to reduce in the summer. If she was mine, I'd probably just measure her weight, and keep an eye on her for any sign of footiness regularly.
She's a very nice looking girl - and I'm sure she'll look even better as you continue to work her.

I dont think shes that bad, wouldnt want any more weight on but i wouldnt be going all out to try and get her to lose any either, im sure she will look just fine once shes mucsled up a bit.

Definately no more weight but she isnt fat. Just keep an eye. My cob is in the field with no grass in what so ever. she is still managing to keep far to much condition and is living on air!!

She's a nice mare but I'd be trying to shift some weight if it was mine. You know I've got one of these types and he is a nightmare to keep weight off. Don't let her get too fat now as you'll struggle to keep it off over summer otherwise. Also, if you're trying to get her fit then having a belly won't do her any favours.

What are you feeding her? Welshies don't need anything at all!!

She doesn't look to fat an she will soon work it of when you start doing more work with her, but if you think that she is getting fat shires do a very good muzzle and they aren't to expensive.
