I'd like to take my arab mare on a fun ride in just over a weeks time. I think it's 12 miles (with an optional shorter route).

She's in regular work - usually does 30mins - 1 hour 4 times a week, mostly in trot with some hill work. A few weeks ago I took her for an 8 mile ride and she was still full of it when we got back!

The ride is very local so I do have the option to duck out if I feel she's struggling.

Would you take her?

If she managed 8 miles without problems then I don't see why not. As I'm sure you know, arabs are renowned for their endurance.

And, as you pointed out, you can duck out if you feel it's too much for her! I think you've answered your own question.

Any mature sound healthy horse should be able to walk 12 miles with a normal weight . The faster you go the fitter they need to be. But a 12 mile stroll is nothing really.

Most horses and ponies that are in regular work are more than capable of doing up to 20 miles. I always think its not the mileage that matters so much its the speed. As long as you do not blast all the way round you will be more than fine. Enjoy!!!

She should be fine if you pick a steady pace. Find a rhythm that suits her, avoid the gallop/walk mentality that you can find so much in evidence at some local fun rides. Nothing worse for knackering a horse out physically & mentally.
