Okay im still a newbie and as i said before im still learning everyday. Would be totally lost without yous guys!!!

You all know about Gypsy, the girl that bought as she was being beaten badly. She was pretty much unmanageable at the start but has come a long way.

Have been riding her in a snaffle bit, everything is fine until something scares her and we are off, she is not controllable at this stage but stops at the top of the arena. Shes only done this twice, once when my mobile started ringing (forgot to empty pockets) and when YO dog barked when he was out a walk near the arena.

Have been told to put a martingale on her as when she got scared the head went right up and away we went. Have to say that shes got a beautiful canter lol, with the head up i cant circle her, she really fought with me!

Should i stick with the snaffle or try a different bit, if so what do you recommend? If i stick with the snaffle then how do i try regain control?

What about getting her used to the mobile ringing and the dog barking when you are in the yard, before riding.

She has heard my mobile ring before and it didnt bother her, she just seemed that bit more on edge. Was riding her this morning and she went well so popped her over a jump.

We have to walk past the dog pen when coming in from the field, she has seen them and heard them barking before.

There are just days when the wee pet is totally on edge when riding, YO stood and watched me riding today (hate people watching me!) and afterwards he said he thought she had improved loads.

I just get really scared that i will end up doing something wrong with my lot and ruin them

think a martingale is useful if she is evading the bit by sticking her head in the air so would try that before changing the bit, you could also try a different noseband such as a grackle or flash - if you're not already- so she can't open her mouth -another way to avoid bit contact. If that all fails then maybe another bit as she could easily be off with you out on a hack in the same way and safety is tehn an issue. Try the gentler methods first then work on from there.

is it just a normal snaffle? try a french link i no that might sound silly as it is sposed to have a milder action but my mare used to do what you are describing and is alot happier with the french link but they are all individuals so i hope it all works out what ever you decide to do
xxx

Yeap shes on an ordinary snaffle, im sure people laugh at me, but im scared to try things with her incase it scares her more!

Ive been told im too protective but cant help it. Obviously i want her to be controllable, but want her to be comfortable too.

Ive got a martingale so will try her with that, if that fails then i will change her noseband as i do have a grackle noseband, and try the french link bit.

Ok running the risk on being thick, but what is a bubble bit??
