Summer isn’t here at the moment, I’ve got a jumper on and am very tempted to put the heating on but resisting so far. Had to dig out my wellies to walk my dogs as everywhere was really wet , it’s been so nice to wear trainers for a few days . I got to Norfolk on the 1st for a week by the sea, hope it doesn’t keep raining 🤞

No it’s may.
Exactly.

We've been spoilt the last 3 or 4 years with very dry and over warm springs. Remember lockdown in 2020 how dry and sunny it was?

I've had fuzzies shivering in sluicing cold rain over the late May bank holiday weekend in the past, towed in and out of the old Surrey County show etc.
Summer will come, then everyone will be groaning about being too hot/hard to ride/do chores etc.....

My neighbour says similar “cast not a clout (never heard that before!) til the Hawthorne is out”

Apparently means don’t pack your coats away until the Hawthorne flowers!
That's because May blossom is another name for hawthorne flowers. We still have some Hawthorne buds that haven't opened.

It's not so much your coat you should keep on, as your vest!

I remember last year was a washout, the year before was beautiful in April but freezing and rainy in May before a super hot summer, the summer before that was a washout, and the summer before that...was lockdown and I wasn't here.

I had my winter coat on today!! Back to mud and standing water in the fields here and I am sure we will be plagued with midges when the sun does come out again!!

I go to France on Saturday and had to put the heating on just to dry the pre-holiday washing, yesterday!! Now sat here in a jumper. You gotta laugh...

Just finished riding, 2 long sleeved tips plus a coat and winter socks on and I didn't feel particularly warm, but at least it's dry if a bit windy!

My central heating kicked in this morning 😩
I'm just counting my blessings that my fields don't seem too bad following yesterday's downpours...

I must of course apologise to everyone that summer was so brief this year. I will NOT post about riding in just a t-shirt ever again and have subsequently resigned my position as 'declarer of summer' in the current government as will not be standing again on July 4th.

Once again I apologise for my thoughtless actions and hope given time you can forgive me. 😩😂

I can remember going to an agility show on Bank Holiday Monday, must have been 2007 as it was the first show for my then young dog. It was raining as we got there and just kept going. We opted to leave about 11.30 and were just about the last people to leave that didn't need towing off. Total washout. Over the years that particular show had more wet days than dry, by comparison the one that was, and still is, always held the following weekend usually had hot if not scorching weather. Only remember one really wet day in the many years I attended it. Will be interesting to see if the pattern holds this year. Not looking good for Monday sadly as I am at a show then and really don't want to get wet again.
