So I was thinking of insuring my tack but I have 2 questions that I cant find online or on a website can you insurer your tack if you keep it on a very secure tack room on a livery yard that is Alarmed ? secondy i got my tack with my horse the problem is I don’t have anything to prove how much the saddle and bride is worth? Is tack insurance worth the money what’s your experience .

I insure with KBIS and set my own value. That is all they would pay out so if I under value I would have to pay the short fall to replace.
There is also a clause (from memory) that states if the yard has more than 12(?) horses the tack room must be alarmed and have certain standards of locks.
I insure as the additional premium was relatively small and I would struggle to replace everything at one go. Hope this helps.

You can work out the value of your tack by looking online for the same makes. I know it can be covered on some people's house insurance. Policies usually specify what type of security is required, you would need to discuss with insurers. My building has to be brick, bars over windows and a 5 bolt dead lock

I don't insure my tack. Our tack room is as secure as it can be but we can't use the specified locks. When my tack did get stolen off a large livery yard I claimed on my house insurance. I just costed up what it would cost to replace, 2 saddles with numnaetc, and 2 bridles.

I wouldn't expect house insurance to cover tack kept overnight in a livery stable. If you are planning to rely on that it would be wise to check the policy wording.

Thank everyone I wasn’t going use my house insurance. I tried but they actually won’t cover sports equipment. I was going to use the same company as I insured my horse with I think it’s kBIS.

I didn't even realise at the time that they would cover it. After my tack was stolen someone mentioned it, I rang and gave them the crime number etc and everwas sorted out really easily.

It was a minimal premium to add 1k of tack cover to my existing Harry Hall insurance. No stipulations about where the tack is stored either, very quick and easy. Can’t recommend them enough, very easy to deal with and so helpful over the phone. Plus, shopping discounts!

I would have liked to have gone with Harry Hall but they only do accidental external injury vet fees so had to go elsewhere.

My tack is no longer insured. When I had it stolen the insurance refused to pay out because the tack room didn't have a 5 lever mortice lock. I did investigate cover in relation to household insurance but when I asked it wouldn't have been covered. I now keep my saddle in my car or at home as it's less likely to be stolen. If I had to keep it in a tack room on a livery yard again I'd use a Bulldog locking saddle rack as thieves will grab the easy pickings. The thieves didn't bother stealing the synthetic saddles or a western saddle.

It is typically better to insure tack with a specialist sports insurance cover. Mine covers tack in any locked building. And £1.5K in a car or lorry (if out of sight and not regularly stored there). No specification on type of lock, barred windows, and alarm. AFAIK all horse insurance with tack covered, has specifics in terms and conditions, which can be quite hard to meet.

Have you read all the small print on tack storage?
