I would love to teach my horse to lay down and allow me to mount her wilst laying, but when I have seen how to teach them it looks rather harsh and I am worried that I could do it wronge and dammage her. Is there any tips on how i could teach or wether i should or not.

I personaly don't like it. All the ways i have seen people do it realy put me off. I could not do that to my pony i'm afraid. Lucy does loads of other tricks though. She can bow, Lift a leg, Say please (not litraly lol), gives me a kiss and a cuddle.

No I don't think it's cruel as such, but maybe some methods of teaching it are. Such as i wouldn't be keen on the whole tying up the horses leg and kind of forcing it down. That to me is cruel as there is simply no escape for the horse.

I don't think so. You can teach it quite easily by extending how you use carrot stretches. Once down, if you don't force the horse to stay down and they like being fussed down there, I don't see a problem with it.
I don't actually know of any UK trainers who get their horses to lay down by tying their legs up and forcing them. I'd be interested to know who does that. In Parelli training they lift the horses leg and sort of walk them round their body to encourage the horse to lay down, but a lot of preparation has gone in before they attempt that. In the old days before they sort of dumbed down the levels it was a level 3 task.
