Is the buster trio with the 3 liners worth it? Or alternatives?

Yes, if she's fully clipped I don't think the 100g outer is enough even with the heavier liner.

Blimey, I have the no fill and 40g turn out rugs and the liners. This is the 3rd winter I've been using them and I've never used the 350g liner and very rarely used the 200g one. I very rarely use the neck covers either and most of the time mine is in just the 40g turn out rug. He is a cobby but he is fully clipped out.

Also, I find the PE rugs are a perfect fit for chunkier horses.

You can dispute it if you so wish.

Premier Equine however did not!

They not only refunded the cost of the rug but also the cost of me returning it to them.

They tested it and agreed it leaked like a sieve

It was a trio and leaked from the very first time it was used

Well, there you go - that was 1, not all of them - and the company did the right thing for you :)

Is there a particular reason you seem intent on having an argument with me?

I have not had the only leaking Trio - there is more than one person on THIS thread that has stated as much.

If you go a step further and search on this forum you will find other threads stating the same.

For whatever reason a high percentage of PE rugs seem to leak.

Also, the company eventually did right by me - but only after repeated attempts to get me to buy other rugs at half price and keep the one I had.

Personally I would not buy one of their rugs again.

As the thread specifically asked if the Trio was worth it or recommendations for an alternative, I fail to see why you have taken such exception to me sharing MY experiences

cronkmooar, I'm not picking a fight with you, however you do pop up on most PE threads saying they all leak as per in this thread:
they are heavy and they leak

Perhaps if you were not so careless in your typing :wink3: - to indicate that the only one you had leaked (but that also the company refunded you) that would be a little more fair about what is generally regarded as a pretty good product from a reputable company :)

Of course the rugs can be 'marmite' in some people's eyes, but its pretty unfair to keep repeating your 1 liner each time about leaking, do you not think? :)

Obviously, if you have access to the high % figures perhaps you can share that with us all? There do seem to be as many who are happy tho with them :)

How are you working out your percentages?! I see two people with negative reviews and 12 or 13 positives ( I didn't count that accurately, it is the holiday). So how is that a high percentage?! Especially when people like Measles probably have upwards of ten rugs they are speaking on behalf of? So we might be looking at 10% or fewer of rugs reviewed on this thread having a problem. Something like that.

I have seen threads like this about all the major manufacturers. Rambo don't do any better taken en masse. It is just a QC issue. Some rugs are duff, that doesn't inherently mean the whole brand is awful and to say so is rather mean. I get yours leaked, say that, but don't claim a high percentage leak unless you know it to be so or it is just libel!

I don't own a PE rug by the way. I like Bucas rugs personally but that is neither here nor there...

I wish I had realised other people's experiences before I bought mine as I wouldn't have.

at that price they shouldn't leak, full stop. I contacted PE. It was out of gaurentee but only very slightly. I wish I had contacted them before and taken whatever action necessary against them. Unfortunately I didn't. When I raised the problem with them they offered me another of their rugs with a 10% discount. It had taken several e mails even to get to that stage.

I didn't reply or pursue it further. I had no idea at that stage that other people had rugs that leaked. Also the only word that came to mind concerning PE rugs was "bargepole".

sorry mine was not a pretty good product. It leaked! I can quite see some people might not like such long rugs or heavy rugs, no problem with that. To me the crux is that some, whatever percentage is totally irrelevant, leak. None of them should leak.

I have had rambo's, amigos and various others for very many years. None leaked. The unfortunate horse that I have this dreadful PE buster on wishes I had stuck to horseware rugs. At least he would be dry and comfortable. The only good thing that came out of my PE is that the linings fit the amigos very nicely.

I presume Xmas Furry that you are an agent for PE rugs. I think it is extremely fair to point out the possibility of leaking. That way peoplle go into them with their eyes open or can spend their money on some other brand.

You presume incorrectly. just happy with the 5 PE rugs I have, that is all :)

FWIW, I have had rambo's - 1 had stitching came apart by 3rd day of use, so it went back as not happy, but accepted manufacturing flaw as can happen. An amigo leaked like a sieve & went back.

However, I dont repeatedly negatively post on each 'what do you think of' make of rug posts, for a one-off experience to cite 'they all do that'.

Mainly, if someone has a problem with something, then they post about it.
Those who are happy, often tend not to, which can create an imbalance, as am sure you are aware :)

OP, I hope you are happy with whatever you buy :)

<<whispers>> I just ordered 4 rugs from PE.

It's good to know that occasionally there might be problems so I can be aware, but the way I see it, if I was to post to ask about any rug company then there would probably be positive and negative reports. As long as the majority are positive all is well so I was happy enough to give them a go, based on this thread and googling past threads.

Thanks all x

I have the 200g titan buster, these also have the attachments for the liners but this winter has been so mild i haven't had to use them yet!!
Really pleased with the fit, it doesn't leak, rub or move about much even with a couple of sec a colts hanging off it! Yes it can be heavy when wet, but that doesn't put me off.

Just out of interest I looked these rugs up and my one thought was, how much !! Does a horse really need a rug that cost nearly £300?
I have a 3 rug boxes stuffed full of Rambos, Rhinos and Amigos, a lot were secondhand, some bought new in sales I think the most I paid was £70 new. Some of these rugs must be teenagers but I have never had problems with them leaking, they get washed in with no detergent at 30 C, each spring and if they are really bad they go for a professional wash and reproof. For the oldies that need an extra layer they get an under turnout rug one size smaller than their outer rug. I recently bought cheap Mio for a growing yearling expecting it to be poorly made and a sieve but I have been pleasantly surprised.
I have a selection of equines from a Welsh A, Highland, TB, to a 16hand draught type and Horseware seem to fit most things, I like them because the necks holes seem to fit well and the fronts do not drop causing rubbing. I did once buy a PE when they first started out for a Welsh A and it was far too deep and I had to cut six inches off each side. I just could not justify spending that amount of money on one rug.

Not a lover of PE rugs. I find they are HORRIBLE heavy when wet and the necks rub the mane out without fail...
Amigo Bravo 12 turnout is a liner system, that for me at any rate, seems to be better cut, better thought out, and fit beautifully.

Got a titan 40g in october. Leaked in very! light drizzle. Sent it back (entire rug inc neck cover in case I wanted a refund), yes they said it leaks like a sieve. So they sent me a new one, without a neck cover. Spent £140 for a rug for really useless customer service so sent it back and got a refund.

Still need a new rug but it wont be PE!!!

I use Amigos with liners. They are much, much cheaper, very light, dont leak and fit my big lump of a cob like they are made for him :) I looked at the PE rugs but was put off as I read quite a few reviews where they leak and lots of people say they are heavy and I'm disabled and didnt want to be struggling with heavy rugs. Love my Amigos though!

I have an 8 yr old Duo and am really pleased with it. As I didn't want to pay huge sums for a second rug I bought a MW Amigo Hero and use the Rambo liners in it. It's a much cheaper solution but the Amigo is a brilliant rug and I've had it one of mine out 24:7 in the recent very heavy rain with no leaks at all. I'm a huge fan of Horseware rugs and even the cheapo Amigo Mios have been amazing in the heaviest of rain. I'd happily buy Amigo Hero or Bravo if I couldn't justify the cost of a Duo.

Bob had his PE rug on for about 3 days before he did this:
rippedrug.jpg

I now use a no-fill CosyTums rug on top of either his PE one or his Swish one to protect the rug underneath. The Cosy Tums rug is fab, I've been really pleased with it. http://www.cosytum.com/ I now also wish that I'd bought all Swish rugs instead of PE as they are much lighter, of great quality, fit really well and much cheaper!

I love my PE rugs. I have a new stable 100g and 40g buster t/o with 2 necks. Both are very nice and warm, really wrap round unlike his masta rugs that i have just sold on. I have just bought another PE, the purple 200g. I have a 200g liner and this means it will last him all winter.

He is out tonight 2oc in his 40g body and 200g liner, with the 200g neck. He isn't a warm horse however the heat really stays in with this rug and I love it.

Its been really tested with the storms weve been having, it got drenched and yes got very heavy but so did friends other rugs due to the amount of rain.

The majority of people have good things to say about their PE rugs. :)
