Anyone here having issues with the snow and their dogs??

Riley, Maya and Delilah are loving it and they are getting the same amount of walking as before, if not more :D But DeeDee is not so happy. She only recently had a litter 9 weeks ago and has completely lost her coat. Pugs lose EVERYTHING, except the guard hairs! So she is basically a fuzzy chinese crested at the moment :D

She can only go out in the garden for a pee for a few mins, and even thats with a coat on, she's like a little block of ice when she comes in. And i tried to take her for a short walk yesterday, complete with two thick fleecy coats, and she was still cold. She also slipped over on the ice on the road and upset herself so we came home after only going about 20ft from the house!! She is snuggled up on the sofa happily now, but i think she will not be going anywhere til it warms up!

Well, any bits on lead at the moment are punctuated with cries of 'Henry. Henry! HENRY! Steady! STEADY! NOOOOOOO! BAD DOG!' in an increasingly shrill voice (little sod has worked out he can pull and there's not alot I can do) but once we get off the lead it's business as usual:)

I make Sweep have one walk a day:) - then he likes to stay in the warm but at his age he is allowed!!;):) He will tootle round the garden in between:). The Moo on the other hand is a total maniac in the snow and loves it!!:D:D He has just been having a major hoon with the young boxer here:D - the basically charged around one of the huge fields for half an hour at full speed taking each other out with full body slams making them roll down the very steep hill in the field before coming back for more!!:D:D Both love it and still aren't worn out!!:D:D

no.... M wont go out she plays on the garden regularly but gets too cold

i need some *cheap* do gboots if anyone can reccomend??? she gets worked up by the ice too :(

:D

It's not so much the snow, but the ice. The only way to get anywhere is to go down the road and that's ust too dangerous at the moment. It's a narrow country lane so not gritted.

Yeah, its the ice thats upsetting DeeDee, poor girl :(

I live on a new, relatively nice housing estate (not some dump to be forgotten about lol) and I cant get my car out. Roads have not been gritted at all so its like an ice rink, very danerous, but the main problem is people parking their cars on the road, WHY?? Everyone has a driveway, why park on the road?? My neighbour learned the hard way as a guy on the opposite side of the road was reversing down his drive and the car just slid out of control and hit my neighbours car that was parked on the road opposite the driveway. His own fault if you ask me...! :D

Sorry, off topic rant.. the non-gritted roads have made me very tetchy!lol

Not at all, in fact it's more fun. My whippet and whippet lurcher love the snow and seem impervious to the cold. I can see them easily against the snow, so they can't bugger off. We are having a whale of a time, even when the first lot was up to their shoulders in places.

Yes.

Millie, I've said it before...is like a JRT with two dikks and a step ladder!
She loves the snow. We now have a rota to take her out. Can't stop her still jumping into the river though so have avoided any parks with lakes.

Our evening walk has to be conducted at marathon walking pace to keep Stella warm. My heart bleeds for her every time we hit a "don't walk" sign when crossing the road, as it means at least a minute where she's stationary and shivering to death.

I couldn't imagine a winter walk in CT without Yak Trax--people of England, ye must invest in a pair right away!

Yep - I'm having to go out twice as often and twice as long because she loves it so much. I can't make a move towards coat or wellies without "a-rooo-ROOOOO", pinging off the furniture and generally being a complete toad. :o

Down to half ration walkies since Saturday. She has now gone stir crazy and is running up and down like a crazy thing. Luckily our old pony is taking box rest much better and is very calm and quiet. He seems happier in than out.

As I'm now on a 2 week holiday Tassy is getting much longer walks insted of 2 45min walks a day shes now having an hour and a half in the morning and an hour at about 4ish. She is a puppy again- loving the snow as am I, although the pins in my foot are starting to ache with the cold. I'm loving the snow and would spend all day out with her but fingers and toes ned warming up every now and again. :)

B loves the snow so she has decided to pull MORE than she did before (I didn't think it was physically possible!), I have trigger finger in SIX fingers :o so I am really struggling to hold her with this extra level of excitedness :(

Poor OH has to brave the snow every night with an insane dog.

Creatures are loving it and training is carrying on:

Stop, walk on (sprint like loonies) command (husband is in front and they are desperate to get to him!) Note the numpty who can't undo a simple trigger lead with gloves on.

Recall and me cackling like a witch as the three of them run full tilt at the OH who is crouched videoing!

Nope, cos I live on a farm, so play time is play time. Spends an hour charging about chasing his toy whilst I muck out in the morning. Sleeps for 10 mins, then back out to play with his chums or on his own. Sleep for 10 mins. Back out with OH whils he digs the cars out - again, chasing his toy. Sleep for maybe 20 mins, and waits for chums to come back up and charge around whilst horses put to bed, then back out with me when I get home from work to play again.

He lurves the snow, and finally at night he sleeps - phew. Crazy 11mth collie. Did you guess? :)

Walks now take at least twice as long- because snowballs have to be thrown on a regular basis so they can be chased !

I picked up some snow today on my walk and went to throw it and realised I didn't have my snow ball loving dog (Willie) with me because he is lame. I was really sad about not being able to play (the beagles are okay with the snow but they don't love it like he does) so when I got home I took Willie out into the garden for a toilet break and threw a snowball at him for good measure. He was thrilled so I did it again a few more times to get it out of my system. All while making sure he didn't move around too much which was pretty hard.

Walking-wise we keep going unless it is a full out blizzard but walks do take longer and they take more out of the beagles and me because the snow is pretty deep in parts where it has drifted.

yer affecting us big time!! tilly pulls like mad even with a halter so we havent been out for days!! i feel cruel and we have a decent size garden which she runs round in for hours but I just cant risk all this ice - its just too bad!! she has a new football which is giving her hours of fun in the garden but its not enough!! i need this snow to disappear asap!!!

the garden isnt a walk but theres not much I can do!:(

 Yes big time!!! I have 6 of my own dogs and 3 fosters at the moment (was 2 until this morning when some lovely person decided to dump their dog outside the kennels at 5am)

So because it's too dangerous to take the van out I'm having to walk them around the lanes on lead!!! Okay for the oldies cos they only want a little pottle but the younger staffie fosters need a good blast and my own lurcher and standard poodle x require a HUGE amount of running to get rid of energy!! So I'm walking 3 manic dogs for around 5 miles, getting some off lead runs if the lane is quiet (which most are cos only tractors can drive safely on them), then 3 sets of on lead walks for the oldies and fosters!!!!

I usually have use of a friends fields (lovely rich friend with 40 acre field he allows me to use for nothing!!!) but I can't get there so the dogs are bouncing cos they need a run!!!

So instead of getting up at 6am for an hours off lead riot in the field, I'm up at 5.30 to walk 9 dogs in shifts. Then of course do it all again when I get back from mucking out the horses and working full time.

Tell you what I my legs are not toned and slim by the end of this I'll want to know why!!!
