Is the Thermatex Original Cooler Rug worth the money?

They are beautiful rugs and are great for drying horses, but they are quite warm. Mine is over 20 years old and is quite battered, but still works. I don't find it slips back on its own and leave it on over night sometimes, but they do get covered in shavings. They stretch over time so mine was purchased as 5'9" and fit my 5'9" horse at the time 20 years later and it fits my 6'2" horse perfectly.
You cannot use them underneath another rug or they really do slip back, it is something to do with them being one single piece of fabric.

They do a lightweight wicking rug with the proper grey/brown lining (not to be confused with their knitted summer sheet)
The lightweight rug attracts less shavings, is more practical if your horse tends to get too warm in thick rugs, it doesn't stretch and it doesn't pull back (not in my experience of using it on various ponies anyway)
I don't know why the lightweight one has never caught on, its a far more useful rug than the original version

I do have an original snood rug that I do love though!

I also have the Premier Equine and Masta versions, both of which are very good too

I have one & love it!

But, I've also recently bought a Derby House cooler that is very similiar in material & type to the Thermatex (just slightly thinner) which was in the sale for £20, which if you don't want to spend so many pennies might be an option :)

I have a Weatherbeeta version which I bought second hand on ebay about five years ago. It's too thick for summer but great as a travel rug in winter for going hunting and after washing down etc. It washes well and looks like new. Weatherbeeta discontinued them but have now brought out a new version called a Thermic Quilt Cooler. I haven't seen one but if it's as good as the one I have it's just as good as a Thermatex.
