Alfa A or alfalfa - i am desperate to find some for my horse as she is fed fast fibre but its a bit sloppy and just want to add something for her to chew. Only problem is all chaffs seem to contain one of the above and unfortunately it sends her stupid:)

Be careful as non alfalfa chaffs tend to be molassed. I add a bit of Graze on or readigrass to my boys fast fibre.

Baileys golden chaff is just chopped oat straw, it does have a low sugar molasses coating though, there is also Pegasus chaff too from the spillers economy range, that is also oat chaff with a low sugar molasses coating.

My mare is allergic to alfalfa, brings her out in scabs. I feed her herbal chop, but most mollichops are fine.

Apple chaff and cherry chaff are also ok.

I bought a product made by HoneyChop, it is a bag of chopped oat straw - with NOTHING else on it. It comes in a bale, like a bale of shavings. I am giving it to my shetland as part of his calorie controlled diet.

Mollichaff Kalmer - chopped straw with magnesium and camomille. No Alfa or molasses.

Honeychop was my first choice, but I couldn't find a supplier either!

I have a youngster that is a bit hot and also cant have alfalfa as she comes up in hives and i feed her molichaf calmer with Alan and Page Calm and Condition, she loves it :)

I have also been hunting high and low for a chaff which is free from molassis and alfalfa and came across Badminton Feeds Easy Rider. it has none of these ingredients and I have decided to stick with it.

Have you tried chaffs that are part alfalfa? My horse cannot tolerate alfalfa chaffs but the can cope with part alfalfa. The spillers chaffs & mollichaff condition seem to suit him.

Just Grass - you can get a version by D&H or Simple Systems. If you want a low level grass, ie not much protein etc, Simple Systems do a version called Ruff Stuff which again is nothing but grass but a later cut and more suitable for fatties and those that don't need much in terms of feed value.

I have used all three products and still do and can very much recommend them.
