and if so can I pick your brains? (cheeky of me to ask I know

)

My horse has been off work with a back injury but has been given the ok again. He is still however holding the bit on the right rein and any contact I have on this side is very dead. (very unusual for him)

The thing is that he started doing this just after we think he hurt his back, but he is now moving very freely and I am 90% sure his back is not causing the issue.
He also gets these raised patches on the flat of his cheek (like a pancake under his skin), both sides but mainly on the left. They go away in a day or 2 and I haven't noticed any trend. They don't seem sore to touch or cause any discomfort, but if you rub his face he really leans into you and his lip goes all floppy like he really enjoys it! That in it's self is a bit weird for him as he isn't a very touchy type of horse.

I had his teeth done in March as, to cut a long story short we didn't know what was wrong, thought it was his teeth, turns out it was his back, but dentist said teeth were just like a normal maintenance mouth.
Is there a possibility there is something going on in his mouth, or maybe the muscles on his face?!

Sorry that is a rather jumbled amount of info, but I am really confused on this one and any help would be appreciated!!!

Have you tried to run your hand up the inside of his cheek???Get a friend to hold tongue out while you just run hand up inside to check for ulcers...obviously dont check teeth in this way

i really wouldnt pull the tongue out as the hyoid apparatus(group of bones which support the tonge) are delicate and can break easily,its sounds like it could be water blisters ! if the teeth are ok and there are no sharp edges then maybe an allergy,if he is leaning on the bit then poss etr but without seeing the horse and your bit ect it is hard to tell

was the EDT qualified?

Paintbox is right, dont pull the tongue out....you wont break the bones but you can dislocate the joints in the hyoid and that can lead to tongue paralysis. The tongue can cope with a certain amount of pulling but is difficult for you guys to distinguish exactly how much!

Have PMd you
