Is there a market for 2 year olds?

A friend of mine is struggling financially and has a very nice 2 year old coloured filly (I.D x T.B) she doesn't want to sell but I think she ought to. Another friend of mine told me that no-one buys 2 year olds as they are just not what people want. So, does anyone buy 2 year olds or is it just a lost cause even advertising or helping her try to sell?
 
Personally no, I wouldn't. For about the same money I could buy an unbacked 3 year old ready to start work, without the cost of keeping for a year before doing anything.
 
Well, I have always bought 2 year olds because i can see what type of horse they are going to be when mature, they havent been messed about with by others so are a proper blank canvas, and I like to be able to get to know my horses well before training them, oh, and they are usually cheap:)

But nothing much is selling ATM, its just a case of try and see.
 
I'm with headpiece. I would rather take a 2yo old and do more of the ground work myself ready for backing. But then I have my horses on my own land and so it doesn't cost extra as such to have an extra body on the field.

Tbh I think things are selling if they are advertised well and priced realistically

I have a 2 yr Friesian colt at £ 2000 for sale and has been for the last 3 months
I have intreast but very little
Ive even offered to get him cut
But still nothing to get excited about
 
A well known breeder told me if they don't sell as foals, their selling price bottoms as a 2 yr old, increases slightly at 3 & only get back up to their foal price at 4, then exceed it when backed. I only have 1 advert up for my 2 (Catherston Dazzler) & 3 yr old (Ben Faerie) eventers, but am not expecting serious equiries until they are backed & have done a couple of competitions. Market crap at the moment, too many buyers trying to get the world for peanuts. Some good horses do have to be sold, for low prices, but breeders who can are hanging onto good stock until it gets a fair price.
 
Both mine are nearly black. 2 yr old brown black, looks exactly like her dad (hence registered name of Double Dazzle) but with a little more white (socks behind & extended star), my avatar is her as a yearling. 3 yr old bay/black, socks behind, ermine coronet bands in front & star. Both from my reg irish sport horse (1/4 irish draught) mare by Kiltealy Spring (Sky Boy), currently on loan to international eventers stud due to her lovely daughters & top class irish breeding. Neither cow coloured!

Nothing is really selling at the moment. I've got a 15.1, 5 year old whos done the basics of everything and has alot of potential, expecially for dressage/hunting only want 3k and I've dropped her from 4k, and she been for sale for about 3 months, had hardly any interest! Except from people offering stupidly low prices!
