Is there a market for broodmares at the moment?

Probably a bad time of year for selling broodmares but if they are producing the goods and are well bred then there is always a buyer. Unproven mares would be more difficult to sell at the moment.

I would say mares that aren't in foal are incredibly hard to sell at the moment as the buyer would have to feed throught the winter but overall, unless it is something exceptional and at an exceptional price, then no I would say not many are shifting. I know of a pony that is 14 yrs old, had 1 foal (last year), jumped Hickstead, HOYS, etc and is for sale for £650 and she hasn't shifted!

Cant decide whether to advertise mine or winter her in the barn with the other broodies until spring? Left her empty this time but might be tempted for just 'one more foal' if I cant sell :-)

Just thought I'd see how other people are going on selling at this time of year!

I have tried to sell mine with no success so far she is well bred and has proven offspring and not expensive for what she is. I hope she will go in the spring. She is too close bred to what I have.

I have a few hanoverians broodmares for sale, they are young , well bred, proven and very good looking and have great tempraments to match..these are cheap and dont seem to be moving!!

i have sold four infoal irish mares for very little but other better bred mares have all sold well, my kwpn mare who is empty isnt getting a sniff, she is probably the best bred of the los but not in foal, she wont go any where now as i have convinced oh to keep her, and he may let me have another for my stallion to even it out for my boys, they can have four mares each!!!

I have a lovely mare (by TB stallion) in foal to Oldenburg AES graded stallion. Only advertised to cover cost of my stud / vet fees as I want her to go to a good home, but not had any visitors.

I have a lovely KWPN mare By Caritas infoal to AES Stallion ...I recent years lots of people have come and admired her ..now I want to sell her nothing :-(

I know of someone with a lovely De Niro x Weltmeyer mare for sale, only 7 and a really good price. Wish i had the money! Can definitely get some bargains at the mo.

I have a lovely show jumping bred mare that I was planning to market in the spring. She show jumped up to 1.40 level herself and we have just weaned this year's foal. We did not put her back in foal as we plan to cut back.

I would like to find a broodmare home for my 15.2 WB Cevin Z x Concorde mare who has been retired from a ridden career due to a field injury. However, I have not advertised her since I thought it would be hard to find a home this time of year.

We have several Holstein broodmares that we may sell, by sires such as Chambertin, Carthago Z, Lansing, Casacavelle and Calido. Most empty as decided against late foals so will be under lights soon for an early start next year. All proven in sport or from excellent damlines so wont be giving them away but we need to cut down in numbers.
Anyone interested please pm me.

We have sold a number of broodmares for clients this year. Good mares and in foal but reaistically priced. We still have one or two for sale including a beautiful mare out of the FULL SISTER to Olympic Ferro in foal to WAVAVOOM. This year's foal by Voom was the Hannoverian Champion Foal, Winwood and was by the same sire. She is graded BWBS and BHHS and has now bred two Champion foals (the previous was by Rockstar). She is in her prime for breeding at 10. Her price is £8000. That gives an indication of how prices need to be.

Woodlanders post goes to show something many British breeders need to learn. There is no point econimising on a cheap broodmare when for a few thousand more you can buy something like the mare Wood;ander describes. £8000 might seema lot but the difference in quality of the foals will be imense.

I know I made a concious decision to make my life hard by wanting to add colour into my breeidng program so I know I have to think a few generations ahead to get to the point I want to be at. if your aim is just to breed top sport horses regardless of colour or registry then a mare like Woodlanders is exactly what you need to aim for

ive got one tentatively for sale, i could do with freeing up a bit of space and time and i have retained two fillies from the mare. She is Pink papered branded oldenburg, graded oldenburg and hanoverian and was herself a premium foal. She is scanned in foal and due may next year, although i was particualary looking forward to the foal and was hoping to grade her WBB(UK) next year. I may stick her in horsedeals next month and see what happens. There was some initial interest but then i have heard nothing.

I am looking for a retiring show jumper. A lady that has competed at the very top of the sport, internationally in 1.5m classes with success, and who now deserves the quiet life and pampering.

A mare that will be retired to the fields with my broodmares and in return provide us a couple of foals or embryos that would be sired by the very best stallions available to enhance her type and breeding.
