Our local supplier is telling us there's now a shortage of cardboard for horse bedding and he can't get hold of it (this is Wilts). Anybody else hearing this or is he having us on?

And can anyone give me some recent prices for Ecobed, Ecobale, Harbour Bedding, any other cardboard suppliers that deliver throughout the UK, preferably with some idea of likely delivery charges on top?

Cardboard will go the same way as wood.....whilst there is no manufacturing there will be nothing to deliver and therefore no cardboard produced to make the boxes and packaging.

Paper price has dropped from £50 per ton to less than £1 per ton on the waste market so it isnt practical for people to even collect it together to sell anymore.

As far as I know Ecobed is a manufactured product not made from waste cardboard, therefore, it shouldn't be affected by the economic situation. It's an alternative I've considered but not sure how much it is per bale as yet.

I really do think there's a great deal of scaremongering and profiteering going on at the moment amongst the various suppliers of horse bedding. Yes, there's going to be a scarcity of straw because it was such a bad harvest this year, and that is going to push more people into using shavings. That on top of the downturn in the building industry, from whence all shavings come, was enough to create scarcity and massive profiteering in the shavings industry. It's interesting, though, that I've heard no reports of scarcity in the various suppliers of wood pellets, which are surely sourced in the same way.

I can understand that the combined problems of straw and shavings would push more people into using the alternatives, be it cardboard, paper, hemp or whatever. That means those suppliers will be having a good increase in orders right now, which could increase waiting times, but other than that I can't see any reason why those industries would have any problems with sourcing nor any real need to increase prices. Does anybody know differently?

i think most things like that are being reduced at the moment..
