Is there always this 'type' of woman on every yard??

we have the queen of them all, she has been kicked off 3 yards for her attitude towards other liveries, she doesnt even take any notice of the yard owner when told not to do something like grazing her horse on the grass walkways [loose] her horse is in her opinion not aggressive but kicked out at mine as i walked past on the other side of the fence getting his foot stuck and ripping his shoe off in the process im glad that the fence was there,shes still doing it
she suggested to the yard owner that she should ban straw on the yard so as to have a smaller muckheap
she stopped the yard owners putting up tie rings outside the stables and then tied her horse to the door bolt he pulled back and broke it so started tying up to everyone elses door so if it got broken it wasnt her problem
the list goes on, she apparantly, is the most knowlegable on the yard
we only moved to the yard in april at first you try to be friends with everyone, with her we now try to keep it to good morning
im sure i dont need to mention the back stabbing
from what ive red people doing your veteriary care is helpful if you ask for it, if you agree to it and it turns out to be the wrong treatment you should have got the vet in the first place, ultimatly its your responsiblity stop passing the buck

Yes last place I was at had one and she had the filthiest stables in the north. You can't go anywhere locally without her being there pretending to be all official.

hahahahhah god there is one on every yard along with two faced people is was quite funny actually they seem to enjoy telling me to do this and that when its not even my horse and she was in charge of looking after the horsey not me.

but if u talk back i find that always shuts them up.

I fell out with a friend many years ago because among other things, she insisted my horse was lame and that I needed to have her thoroughly vet checked.

But the horse wasn't lame. The horse had never been lame. About nine or ten years later, the horse, still in full work footering about with medium level dressage, still isn't lame.

Friend was angry I didn't agree with her.

Ohh yes!! I've come across a few of these.

But one in particular really sticks in my mind. She only stayed on the yard about four weeks, and in this time moved everyone's field fences around without permission because she wanted their patches, removed sweet itch rug from my horse because she said it looked dirty, started feeding someone else's horse hard feed behind her back, asked the yard owner to build a roundabout system at the small entrance because she didn't like reversing to turn around, insisted that no horse from Ireland could digest protein for 6 months after being brought from Ireland, and then said that I was starving my horse because I hadn't provided her hay all week in the stable (I had been tipping it on the floor due to a broken finger - and she assumed just because the empty haynet was tied up outside the stable I MUST BE STARVING HER!!). Oh not to mention the fact that she actually had to be stopped one day from putting a headcollar on everyone else's horse and moving them to a different field without permission, because she thought her horses would be better off in the other field!! :eek::mad:
 
And then there are the ones that ask 'everyone' what to do then ignore all the help and carry on with what they were doing which usually doesn't work anyway!

As for the ones who expect everything for next to nothing! My dentist went on holiday for four weeks and asked if I would look after all her ponies, dogs, cattle and birds while she was away. 28 days, daily, 20 minute drive each way and 30 mins to go around check and feed everyone. Rescue the odd cover and patch up the fence.

In return she would deduct money off my dental bill. That was fine by me. Then a couple of years later I needed dental work - I got a bill. When I queried it I was told that i had been given the discount on the earlier bill.

I asked her secretary for a breakdown and pointed out the number of hours and the amount I charge $25 an hour - I am just as much a professional as she is. Not heard a peep of a bill out of them since and still didn't get the breakdown so must chase up on that.

I do this too - its the most easy way to ensure the farrier doesn't rasp off the precious feather. I use football socks as they are more robust.

And yes I do use stockings on tails - great way to keep them clean when travelling as dung tends not to stick, is easy to take off and don't take much to wash. I cut them around the crutch and nip off the end at the toe, roll them up and pull the tail through and bandage over the top portion. Get to show with a clean tail.
 
Oh yes! On my yard we have 2. One told me that my horse should be PTS or claim loss of use cause he had an abscess! Thinks she's great cause her daughter's got 3 ponies, and wins everything at shows.
 
We have a 'horse communicator/healer' know it all. As soon as she arrived on the yard she seemed to think it was her duty to pass her insider knowledge of what everyone's horse was thinking/saying despite no-one wanting her readings.

According to her most horses were beaten with sticks from birth or suffered major trauma and abuse in one way or another. Not one horse appears to have had an untraumatic past and most were unhappy at the moment. :rolleyes:

She doesn't see the irony in that if her own horse goes lame she gets the vet in - so much for her healing touch!!!
 
Yep! Several yard I have been on! Actually I think maybe I loaned a horse off one of these at one point... Last place was small, this person disagreed with me, the YO, my loaner, my vet, my farrier, various instructors etc... Final straw she was very rude to said farrier... I left.
 
I have excellent selective hearing so I don't notice much... But everyone on my yard seems to have an opinion on what I do so I guess I am the "idiot with a horse".

I am an idiot though, last night I turned my filly out in a small paddock with another and she gorged herself silly on the fairly long grass. I mean why did I think she would just nibble? I probably deserve every opinion I get on that one!!!

Oriel did we used to be on the same yard? ;) Our lady that was like this was a good friend at one point but as I got to know her and she became more and more bonkers I kind of backed away. With regard to all horses having suffered and been beaten you can't get better than this....... I spent some time looking for another mare for her - came across a fresian - her dream horse. We went and visited, the mare eventually came on permanent loan - she was a project, a 'bolter'. So I was there for all of the initial conversations with the owner, visited twice with mad lady and knew all there was to know about the mare before she got to the yard. Her story was that she was bought from some gypsies and had been stabled in a ramshackle kind of stable that was too small for her. That's the story - the end. Owner has had her a couple of years, made good progress, walk-trot-canter in the school, walked out in hand most days, had been hacking but horse would sometimes bolt for home and she had lost her confidence.....

Here is the mad ladies now story of events - horse was practically wild when we first viewed her, nobody could get near - took such a long time to bond with her as she wouldn't let you near her, she has obviously been horrifically beaten in the past.... had barely been sat on and look now she can bow and paw at the ground on command and everything. *sigh* :eek:

Mad people.

I am VERY glad to say that the yard I am on at the moment has no pitbull or know it all. I am the numpty as I have the least experience out of all of them and they are all very helpful. Wonder what they say behind my back though :rolleyes:

I don't think it is :) there are people on my yard who like to give advice if someone has a problem/ horse with injury (including me) but they are only ever suggestions for people to follow if they wish or not. We would never interfere with how people choose to keep their horses that is the yard manager's job if something is not right but then we have very good yard managers :)

Um this! At my yard we all pitch in and help each other and I will offer advice to others if I think it may help - but advice is all it is, they are free to ignore it if they choose and I wouldn't be offended. Is that bad?
 
The biggest yard I was on had 44 horses, a mix of DIYs and part livery. It was a tatty place really but everyone rubbed along OK. I have been on smaller very smart yards and it was hell though. Have to say it is usually down to the person at the top.

We had one who wasnt a livery but she took lessons at the yard. My boy had been gelded on the Wednesday at just over a year old. He was fine for a couple of days but is a bit of a wuss and the Friday night he didnt eat his feed with bute and antibiotic in and was just plain in pain/sulking on the Saturday. The vet came back and gave him an antibiotic jab being the most important thing and said to try just a normal feed (which I had already done). This lady turned up and saw the vet leave so asked what was wrong. She then said she is a crystal healer (or something like that), barged into my stable and started swinging this crystal and mumbling to Prince. She said he "told" her he wouldnt eat because he didnt like bran and if I got him a carrot he would eat it and I should understand what he is telling me. More to humour her I got him a carrot, which he point blank refused. Boy did i laugh!
 
we have 2 on our yard, sometimes 3! one is almost 18yrs old and thinks she is the bee knees, got a big mouth as well so when she talks you have to hear (not always listen though) yet she doesn't actually know the basics such as putting a bridle back together after cleaning.
another is older and a been there done it type of person. she dictates to everyone about what they should be doing and everyone gets annoyed with her, i have found that the best way to deal with her is to say oh right ok, yeah that makes sense and then quickly ask another question about something totally different, she forgets what she was talking about and it's over and done with! :D

the third depends on the situation, sometimes she likes to enforce her opinion on you (mainly the novice owners) and if you don't take her advice then she sulks. she's given up telling me anything as she knows i won't listen.

^^^we have one of these as well! Thinks that "schooling" the ponies is done by yelling canter at them to get them to canter. Worst thing is she went to an equine college too......
 
Yes there is. They're are 2 on my new yard, both bonkers! However - have worked on yards for the last 13 years and ran a Large (70 horses on site) BHS approved riding school for 8 years, so those who know this always ask me for help, which I don't mind at all. I never ever insert myself into situations I'm not invited into.

Last yard had one, sadly it was the woman that ran the place. According to her YP is over faced and not capable of jumping a 90cm course as he is only 14.2 and emphasis was made on how big it was. She also hasn't seen him jump and said 2'3 was as high as she ever wanted to jump so he should only ever do 2'6 :confused:. The final straw was when they said they didn't care that he was being bullied in the field as he was the last of their priorities. We left sharpish and now they are spreading rumours about us.

Exactly. my boy only ever gets a growl if hes bargy (hes a big baby) but you hear her from miles away! only problem is the girls who have these ponies on loan are getting the same. pone ran off last night and I could hear her all the way from my field shouting "you do as i say when I say, not when you want and you walk when I want you to walk and dont run off and listen when I tell you things". I couldnt help but say to her that the pone doesnt understand that but she just laughed and walked off! sorry....nosy and interfering i know :D lol
 
Yes, but thankfully mine has just left! She used to give us "helpful" information on just about everything, and was very patronising. When I first got my horse he was very difficult and began kicking out with his front legs while being led in hand. We were obviously concerned by this (and it really hurt!) but she and her daughter thought it was absolutely hilarious! Glad they're gone, hope we don't get another one for a while...
 
Ooh, great thread to have a gossip in. Worst yard I was ever on had 3 pitbulls who clubbed together and bullied everyone else, from gossiping about them, belittling them, or leaving anonymous notes. Finally me and buddy had enough when Head Pitbull called buddy's horse a 'fat old cob' - he was in fact a super-fit ID pocket-rocket hunter. So next morning we both launched into HP who screamed her lungs out at us right back for about an hour, then Deputy Pitbull arrived and said to HP, 'don't worry about them, your horses are better than theirs'!

Interestingly, HP and DP behaved themselves after that - I find if you stand up to them they tend to skulk off into the shadows. Bottom-Ranking Pitbull stayed horrid, but everyone ended up not talking to her as she was so bitchy, so she then tried to be super-sickly nice to everyone, which was even worse than when she was being a super-bitch!

Other than that there was a spoilt, precious teen whose daddy had bought her £45-grand's worth of superstar Danish dressage horse. I walked past her stable one day and she hissed at me 'get your cheap horse out of my way'. I had a gentle word with her father later and got an apology.
 
Ooh yes there was another mother and daughter, who quite apart from imposing their opinion on everyone, wrote a note on our blackboard accusing me (by name) of trying to trip up their new horse by leaving a small section (literally a few centimetres) of baling twine on the floor! I know it wasn't me as I hadn't been at the yard that day, but horse people can be very peculiar indeed. Thankfully the annoying ones seem to move on quite quickly!
