One that covers tapeworm and encycted reds?
Would normally give pramox but with a newer addition who's small and old I'm a little hesitant as although I've never had a problem I know s lot of people have

as someone who would never give pramox I use equest at the end of Dec and equitape around now if I was doing tapes (although I would equi sal test so probably wouldn't need equitape)
Anyway these 2 wormers have the same ingredients as pramox.

Just had a conversation with vet about this about an hour ago...

She said Pramox is only wormer effective on tape and suggested a blood test for tape which is much more accurate than the saliva test.

If tapeworm comes back low just do a Equest which covers Encysted red and roundworms etc

Must be cold before doing the wormer for the Encysted otherwise you will need to go again when cold.

Interesting about the frost. I was always taught this years ago but according to my vet it is no longer the case. Apparently it was more to do with the wormers being 'stronger' and that if it was frosty there would no hunting so the horses could be wormed and not worked the next day.

I lost a horse to colic 24 hours after worming with Pramox. It was a horse that I bred and had wormed regularly including Pramox all its life. Pramox is not welcome in my yard ever gain even though there is no proof it was the cause. Equest and Equitape and/Panacur guard 5 day course.

Your vet is out of date Julesrules. The saliva test is fully validated, peer reviewed and even more accurate than the blood test for tapeworm.
Pramox the only effective wormer for tapeworm? I don't think so. The same active ingredient is present in Equitape, Equimax etc. Sometimes praziquantel doesn't work and then you need double pyrantel. Saliva test results have shown this.
Moxidectin is certainly the most effective wormer for encysted redworm though and can be given as Equest or in combination as Equest Pramox.
You are right it is far to early to think of treating encysted redworm and it should be cold even if that means waiting till January.

I have smallies and would only ever use pyrantel, ivermectin and fenbendazole. Praziquantel and moxidectin have both had reactions in the little ones cause people vastly overestimate their weight.
