Is there any hope for our boy??

Sending hugs to you ((()))
Often the right thing is the hardest thing to do, so well done for doing it. I'm so sorry you couldn't save him

My sympathies.
I too have lost a horse to colic....insurance wanted him to have the operation but he was too ill, he simply wouldn't have made it to surgery so I had him PTS...the right decision for him I feel.
OHs mare colicked about 2 years ago....she pulled through but he decided before the vet arrived that surgery want an option. It's not just the operation, it's the recovery, box rest and everything else.
I'm sorry for your loss, but rest assured you did all you could.
((( hugs)))

So sorry to read you lost him :(
If it helps you did 100% the right thing for him.
I lost my horse in a very similar situation, I couldnt put him through surgery as he was old and in too much pain to travel, sadly he died before we got to the vets to say goodbye. I still think of him everyday.
Thinking of you x

Sorry to hear you lost him, you did the right thing. RIP Mr Fudge.

If it's any comfort, this thread has been educational for many of us - I for one did not previously know about the options of lunging or loading colicing horses to 'get things moving'.

R.I.P Mr Fudge. You have been very brave and Mr Fudge would thank you for your decision making. I too would not put any of my horses through colic surgery. For me there are too many anomalies associated with Colic and too much that can go wrong during, following and in recovery from the op.

It is a well known treatment around here to actually put them in the lorry and drive them around. A gypsy treatment is also to put them on the lunge and run them around as fast as they can go. Both can work, though they sound a bit drastic.

OP I will cross my fingers for you.

Yes my vet recommended I did that with my boy. He had colic twice and both times it was the same thing, part of the gut turns. First time he was operated on, and it was successful. After that I lived every day in dread of it happening again, which it did about a year or so later. I could not go through the stress again and didn't think it fair to put him through such major surgery again. Where do you draw the line, once can be a one off, but twice ... Still upsets me to this day to remember that dreadful night.
