Is there any point in reporting this to the dog warden?

The thing is three dogs act as a pack, regardless of how ‘nice’ or otherwise they are. Ok so not every ‘pack’ will have a reaction to other dogs, but it only takes one of them to set the others off - which can lead to incidents like yours. If owners don’t recognise this, then multiple dog ownership is not for them.

I do hope the police take a firm stance with these people. You did nothing wrong, and certainly didn’t invite the situation due to your own off lead dog.

Felt sick reading that, really glad your dog is ok. Terrifying for you both and I’m not surprised you lost the plot. Other people’s off lead dogs make me afraid now, after my little dog nearly got ripped apart. That dog also went straight for her with no warning, so you’re right to see it as an unprovoked attack on your dog, even if they didn’t manage to catch her. Definitely get the police/dog warden involved, I really doubt this is an isolated incident.

I had the same scenario with my previous dog when he was about six months old when he was chased by nine rescue greyhounds all off the lead. My dog just took off followed by the greyhounds and they all disappeared. Apparently it was my dog’s fault as he appeared round a bush carrying a stick and jinxed in front of the greyhounds, whatever that means and the man with them insisted it was a signal to his dogs to attack and wouldn’t have happened if my dog hadnt been so foolish !
I could do nothing except wait and hope that he came back which he eventually did. Can’t say I thought about reporting what happened, I just avoided going anywhere near the greyhound man again. He runs a rescue for them and is very fussy about where they go !

Thanks I felt a bit of a fool writing this when my dog was off the lead and yes- bolted- understandably. I didn't attempt to call her back either as wanted her to get away.

She is absolutely immaculately trained and as I said above she has had plenty of dogs bounding up to her which she understandably doesn't appreciate but she has always remained at my heel (and I always then block their access to her with my leg), for her to turn and bolt shows how truly terrified she was- she NEVER "misbehaves".

Omg the thought of her running away with a lead on and then jumping the trappy gate and the lead getting caught or whatnot...

So many scenarios running through my head!

My dog had his neck shredded and the same two GSDs had killed a JRT outside its house and about quarter of a mile away from theirs, killed sheep, and I promise you the police were not and are not one bit interested. It comes under the remit of the local authority and the dog warden.

I rang the police with the “what if it had been a child” argument and nope, refer back to the DW.

This particular owner was already under investigation by the council, she simply ignores the summonses and doesn’t show up at the court hearings. And get this, she’s actually breeding from the pair of them.

The DW is tearing his hair out, no support for him from the police or the council’s legal team.

End result is that nobody in the village dares walk up that road with a dog any more. If it hadn’t been for the young lad who stopped his car, grabbed a tyre lever from the boot and beat the GSDs off with it, my dog would’ve been killed, and still it would’ve been a DW issue and not a police one.

I let my other two go when my big dog was attacked. I thought they were far safer being able to run away while I tried to save the big one. They actually went and hid in the hedge and didn’t go far.

Yep not sure what she'd have done if we hadn't been so close to home.

I am so glad I shut the gate behind me and so glad we were- though I have no doubts she'd have outran them given she outruns Boggle :D

Well the very same van just drove past my house. I hope they don't cause any trouble for me reporting them as I'm off to Exmoor!

Oof, yes, warden certainly, not sure police would be that interested unfortunately.
We have been rushed at/charged by large labradoodles, had mine been offlead I am sure a chase would have ensued.
Once it was so bad I whipped out my phone and started taking pictures/recording (or well, pretending to) and shouted at the owners (who were tiny dots in the distance, sigh) that I was doing so.

I'd make a point of pretending to or actually filming/snapping the van. If you are in a public place then this is legal.

yes I photographed it in front of them at the time.

If they start harassing you then it's definitely a police matter!

Sorry edited as realised I had already said about their drive by above. I’m a bit stressed!

They did slow down but could be because I was coming out of the gate packing the car although they saw where my dog ran back to. The end of the road they were driving to us actually shut but they may not have known.

I feel quite unnerved now but they could be local and it harmless.

Poor Pepper and poor you, how utterly terrifying! Thank goodness she was fast enough to outrun the pursuing dogs and got away safely. Sadly a friend lost two border collies in similar circumstances but her dogs ran straight on to a busy road and both were hit by vehicles ?. I would definitely report to the DW but sadly doubt the police will be interested. Nothing lost in reporting via your force’s email or 101 though.

I was referred to the police by the DW when I reported a local dog walker who persistently allowed her dogs to run through our sheep. DW told me it's a crime, so police deal with it.

That sounds terrifying, I hope your dog is OK. Definitely worth reporting to DW and police, if nothing else there will be a record of something else should happen in future.

This whole thing sounds perfectly dreadful.

Would the police drive by your house a few times a day while you're away? If not, would your neighbors keep a watch for you?

Can you purchase an air horn for when you walk, just in case? It might freak out your dog but is usually effective to stop an attack.

Hi guys sorry I have been slightly awol as went on hol. I spoke to the dog warden and just need to send him an email. He said he will get the persons details from the police via the reg I photographed.

Just got home so typing it out now on laptop. He said he will speak to them but reality is he will simply “advise” them.

He also said the police would pass it on to him so it’ll end up in his hands regardless of what route.
