I would one day like to breed myself a little foaly but is there such thing as a broodmare loan?.As in you have the mare put in foal then return at weaning. This is probably a daft question but i thought i would ask anyways!.Thanks.

I have a mare by clover hill who is currently on loan to a sports horse stud, I get first refusal of her offspring and am happy she is being well looked after. I don't have her back at weaning as she lives there permenantly and I cant forsee having her back unless I marry someone rich (unlikely) but she was a good friend and took me from pony club to intermediate eventing and deserves a nice job!

Thank you guys.I dident mean it to come across so harshly as in get a foal off of it and send it packing again!!.It is all very much a pipe dream at the moment but something i would like to think about it!.

My mare went lame thru a kick and needed some time off so a friend had her on loan for a year and put her in foal to their stallion - in return i got a free covering off him in the future. However she died during foaling so didn't quite work out

Hi! You must have forgotten that I have both Twiggy (from Tilly) and Bea (from Siennamiller) on broodmare loans! Twiggy is with me for a couple of years but Bea is with me for just one foal while SM is pregnant herself) The idea is that when the foal(mine) is weaned, the mare will stay here until she is dried off properly and then be returned to SM; it'll probably take upto 6 weeks.
While they are with me I am paying all costs, vaccinations etc and the insurance too but no money has changed hands and I have had freedom to choose which stallions I want to use. Some people may have different ways of doing things!

They are out there, I hope you find one (I obviously found both of mine on here!
