Aside from time?
I had my mare back 6 months ago, the bottom of her mane had been severely rubbed out, presumably from a rug with a full neck. It was about 1inch long and very thin, you could see her skin.
She has been rugless since (now in a rug but no neck) but it's barely grown, it does look thicker and is maybe 2inches long now.
She is fed;
Ad-lib hay
0.5kg speedibeet
1kg unmolassed alfa a
0.3kg micronised linseed
2 tablespoons turmeric
1tablespoon himalayan rock salt
20 pepper grinds.
2 scoops benevit
100ml soya oil.
I had a dig around today and she is quite scurfy on her skin there.
She an 18yo Arab Welsh. Not a poor doer but not fantastic either.
I was considering biotin and seaweed? Also read some where about something called MCG?

Sorry for the long message...

Any suggestions very much appreciated!

I have also used Megatek with success, but tbh Arab's do have naturally fine manes, so you may be fighting genetics.

Keep it as clean as you can, only use a plastic comb on it - you can also use pig oil to keep it slippery so where the rug sits has less friction.

Diet sounds good :) Don't use mane and tail detanglers - dries the hair out. MTG massaged into the roots and coconut oil on the lengths and only brush when necessary with a soft brush! No neck rugs and and satin anti-rub shoulder guard will help save the hair around the wither.

I hardly brush my horses 3 manes and all are long, I use megatek and baby oil as well as Cowboy magic when it is needing combing. I use neck covers in winter to stop mud ingraining in the mane and drying it out as well as saving from other horses necking with them and the trees from ripping it out and little ones mane is lovely

i have found pig oil works a lot better than megatek as its absorbed better and doesnt leave a sticky residue.

our old boy got scalped by a rug and had a bald patch for about 8 years, a summer of pig oiling and its now growing back nicely :)

Shapley's MTG is a god send. In March this year my horse completely rubbed his tail out on a long journey in the lorry. After a few months of regular application of Original MTG, it had grown back enough to cover the area, and now it's growing out the lengths just nicely with regular MTG application.

It's expensive but it works, I couldn't recommend it enough.

If I figure out how to post a picture, I will show you the difference from March to May with MTG application - any help on the picture posting front appreciated?!
