My landlord has been round and said that i am no longer allowed to keep my dog because she has scratched the outside of my patio door slightly. I have a week to find her somewhere to live. She is 6years old, i think she is a something cross french bulldog. (not sure as we had her from freecycle a year ago).
Her name is Molly, she doesnt bark much at all, she doesnt jump up at people, she loves kids but is not keen around other animals. She sleeps a lot and is no trouble.... but I am just not allowed to keep her anymore.
She doesnt have fleas and is very clean.

I've emailed the admins before and all they do is send out polls asking people to vote - the last one was close (only a few percent in it) so they keep allowing it :(

Time consuming I know but I either ring them or email them, I get told to ******* off quite a lot but I try to tell them the dangers of free to good home. I tell them that their dog could be used as a bait dog to train fighting dogs and have often been told oh she is too small or he wouldnt fight, some people are genuinely shocked at what could happen. Unfortunately pointing them in the direction of a rescue isnt always possible as they are full but if they are near me I do know of a rescue who would try and take them. Good for you for trying to make a difference, a few more like you doing this would help, I and others have tried to get Gumtree and Preloved to stop these ads but they dont wont to know and we rarely get an acknowledgement to our email. If you can get them to neuter or spay that will stop them going to a puppy farm and if they charge a token fee of £30 it would help and if they do a homecheck.

I always email people and sometimes get a response. Unfortunately the local shelter is pretty much full to bursting right now :( I actually took a dog on last year from freecycle and rehomed it with a friend of my parents - it was an 18 month old JRT x beagle and the owner couldn't cope with all the mess it created when left alone at home all day, the poor thing didn't even know it's own name :( He was so tiny I was worried he'd make an ideal bait dog and the people just didn't care  :(

Like DG said, frustrating not! they make to much money from joining fees and advertsing to give a ****.
I also email any one and everyone, give them advice, local rescue numbers, tell them to find local facebook rescue pages and send pictures of dogs that have been used for baiting. One woman recently thanked me and took her dogs off immediately and said she could never live with herself if the dogs ended up like that and was completely ignorant to the facts.
It's so sad and so frustrating, we worry more for these dogs than the people giving them away, all people can do is watch them and try and educate, maybe an idea to have groups of people doing "free ads" dog monitoring and atleast trying to educate or help guide the "discarders" in the right direction????

Even if you local rescue is full other groups would help, maybe a french bull dog homing group if you could see a picture and it resembles the breed at all.:(
I have seen on a group I am on rescue stepping in and taking the dogs once the free ads are brought to their attention.

I've had run ins with pre loved over this, had various emails from them basically saying they have advice on their site about offering pets for free and the dangers, not that anyone actually bothers to read it or they wouldn't offer their pets for free.
I tried to place an ad warning people but they stopped it.
I have contacted the people trying to get rid of their pets, most ignore me.
Pre loved don't care, the pet's owners don't care or they wouldn't be willing to palm the dog off on strangers.
If the dog doesn't go through freecycle, pre loved, gumtree etc where else will it go, it possibly will be dumped, all we can hope for is that it's taken to a rescue/charity where it may be re homed or pts humanely if all else fails.
I cancelled my (paid) preloved account as a protest and when asked, I told them why, do they care?
Of course not!
